I can't believe we haven't got a Nando thread! Hope ive not missed it. Well Nando is cleared to race, and that's great. Regarding his accident, he said he felt the steering went heavy. Mclaren saw nothing amiss on their telemetry( it was windy) but have fitted extra sensors to be able to monitor anything amiss, m.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/118164

I really hope Alonso comes back and immediately and obviously drags the car where Button or Mags can't. That would be a huge boost for the team as they go about adding performance.
Let's see Teflon walk on water, he deserves to cement this reputation he has as the poor guy ain't likely to add anorexic WDCs before he retired

I'm keen to see him and Button in the same team, very keen to see how that pans out.

Apparently he now remembers something of the accident and says the steering felt heavy, but the telemetry shows no particular defect.
Its like I have always maintained, Alonso made his fastest lap and on the next lap pushed harder, too hard and decided to abort the corner and bleed speed on th astroturf and misjudged it, hit the wall, was unlucky to get a side swipe concussion, lost his memory, came round and didnt remember anything, hence the medical drama. He just pushed too hard and went of and was very unlucky to hit the wall.
Thats the difference between Alonso and Button, Button has never had an off in free practice, he has never found the limit of any car. He slows down and bitches and moans about lack of grip or balance way before it causes him to go off.
This is the subtle stuff that makes F1 fascinating, watching how Alonso compares to button offers a high level of data and detail to digest. This is why I never understand why those who only derive any enjoyment from F1 by seeing a neck to neck finish of 5 drivers in 5 teams etc, why dont they go watch horse races? the finer details of F1 escapes them, or they just dont get it and pretend.
I could derive a lot of satisfaction watching free practice, or a stream of lap data by the 2 McLaren drivers.

I'm keen to see him and Button in the same team, very keen to see how that pans out. Yeah it definitely will be interesting, I can't wait.

Alonso with a very zen response to premature question.

Fair comment to Alonso. If he's only going to finish as runner up at Ferrari why not push the boat out and try something radicle.

According to Truli, Alonso's ex team mate ' Alonso might never win another race" . Well actually that's not exactly what Trulli said, Trulli gave his opinion on Alonso's situation. 'Alonso might never win another race' is the title the BBC gave to the article , and taken out of context it twists Trulli's meaning somewhat in my opinion. Trulli does say a little in what Alonso was like to work with....... Trulli on Alonso's character "I had a very good relationship with Fernando at Renault. Firstly, you are dealing with a good driver - he knows he can win and wants to win - and secondly, he's the kind of character that wants to be in charge. That might be good for the team because you need a driver with a personality. "But sometimes Fernando is tough to deal with. This is the tough time and tough side of the deal. Both driver and team should find a compromise and improve the team situation. "Fernando is a good team player, but both parties need to work together properly or else he might prove to be a problem." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/32521144

Yeah I'll never forget that one year at Renault when Trulli was kicking Fonzo's butt all the way until this one time Sugar Daddy Briatore asked Trulli to move aside for his protege and Trulli refused....and since that race onward he never scored a single point that season and Fonzo ended up beating him.
It was his own stubbornness causing havoc at McLaren and wasting two more years in a midfield Renault before moving to Ferrari which looked like a potentially shrewd move which never paid off, and now he's at a backmarker team hoping and praying while getting old.
Shows talent and skill isn't enough to succeed in F1.

Confirmation then that Alonso is nowhere near the complete driver and definitely not a shrewed political player like lewis has turned out to be. Seems El Ponso outsmarted himself, got effectively sacked and had no option but McLaren
How does one say karma in Spanish?

Gotta feel for the guy. Honestly we're coming down hard on Honda, but the reality is that this year, isn't too far off the mark from McLaren's 2013 season and the engine was clearly NOT the issue then.

The 2001 Minardi would be almost quicker than the Macca Honda on a single lap I would think, those cars back then had quite some down force. I would have to look back at the archives to see what lap times that Minardi was doing. I recall that the Minardi's back then were nearly 6 to 8 seconds of the pace to the dominate Ferrari at some races.

It's kind of shocking that this is even being discussed.

A little news about Fernando. It's reported he may be getting married to his girlfriend, and also that she may be pregnant. Alonso seems to know nothing about this. Very odd. On the car front. The Honda engine though powerful is proving unreliable on the test bench and there are suggestions that McLaren will take the 2015 engine to the first few races. Oh dear! www.inautonews.com/good-and-bad-news-for-alonso

‘With his own car not working, I think he just wants to have a go in a Mercedes or a Ferrari or a Red Bull or a Williams or a Force India or a Renault or a Sauber or a Toro Rosso or a Haas or a Manor or a lawn tractor,’ said F1 journalist Maurice Ital. ‘Basically, anything that’s faster.’
JUST A BIT HARSH...
