Nico and Seb were deap in German conversation in that little room before the podium, Lewis was chatting with the mercedes man
( I'd didn't know who the Mercedes man was, and was interested because he and Lewis seemed to have a genuinely close relationship.......NO! not a la Whitmarsh and Jens! Just warm. Lewis doesn't often show that. I've since found out the man is Ron Meadows, sporting director. )
It could have been then that the seeds were planted in Nico's mind, if indeed they were. It wouldn't be the first time Vettel had tried to unsettle Rosberg. He ran rings around him at that other press conference, the one where he invited himself to the garage and debrief and suggested Nico didn't want his team mate to do well. And all done with a smile and a laugh. Buxton said of him...
I do wonder what happened between the end of the race and when the drivers spoke to the press. Was Rosberg always stewing? Or do we think one German had a word with another and asked why he had allowed his team-mate to hold him up when he was being caught? Sebastian Vettel is as shrewd and sneaky as they come. After Multi 21 I termed him the Smiling Assassin, and I’d be delighted if that version of Vettel is back. I can imagine Vettel seeing an opportunity to wind Rosberg up, and needling him at his most vulnerable.
a little side show here to keep our eyes on in the forthcoming races.
EDIT! Meant to add that the 100mill certainly won't have hurt their efforts. Some teams have to survive on less than that. But at least Cumsweetly has put it to effective use. One feels the Ferrari of old would have squandered it, as indeed they did squander the FIA handout.
