Happy new year guys. Personally 2017 was a pretty interesting year for me, I can only hope 2018 brings it up another notch. Here's to my online F1 mates! Great health, great prosperity!

I called up my Nan & Grandad's internet & phone provider today to renew their contract, the first person I got through to said that the "best offer" they could do was reduce the bill by £3 a month over 18 months. I declined and informed them that I would be switching providers as they can't offer me a good deal (my grandparents), they put me through to retentions and suddenly the offer was £10 a month, I then threw out the "We've been with you for 6 years so I'm sure you can do better than that", it quite quickly jumped to £15 per month and we accepted.
I called up for a family friend to renew internet, phone & sky TV. Again the first person only offered a £7 saving over a mixed 12 and 18 month contract. I then said that "Well if that's all you can offer I might as well switch to Virgin Media for my services as they offer all that I need and can better the price. He upped the amount to £10 and I told him that wasn't good enough (the family friend was paying £90 odd a month), I asked to be put through to cancellations and as usual they transferred me to retentions. I told them what I wanted (what the family friend wanted) which was the Sky Q 2TB box and a money off the bill as £80 was too much. I also mentioned how much of a joke Sky are with their installation costs, the Sky Q 1TB installation cost is £20 yet the Sky Q 2TB installation cost is £199... for doing the exact same thing and that I wasn't willing to pay that. He provided me (my family friend) with an offer of getting the Sky Q 2TB box with a free installation, free delivery of the new router and an updated bill of £40 a month. More than halving his bill and getting a better router & sky box.
I called up for my parents too and did pretty much the same thing as I did with the family friend but instead of Broadband they wanted Fibre Max and International calls because of my brother/their son living in Australia. Got a £70 a month bill reduced down to £53 a month with just a £20 installation charge. I'm surprised I managed to get such a good deal considering they only got a new box 2~ years ago or so.

I have happy happy news. My old Audi A4 will live on. I wanted to get it to 200k miles and fell short. Currently at 177k. It simply needed too much money to keep it going, it's leaking oil so it will need a few gaskets, it's leaking coolant and I can't quite tell where it's coming from. The suspension is tired, very tired. Other than that, it's in decent health, so I've worked out a deal to donate it to the local technical college, they'll use it as a student project in their automotive repair and collision program and move it on to a new owner so it will get to the magic 200k number albeit at the hands of a new caretaker. Goodbye old friend.

You've handed it over so a bunch of students can crash it?
Today I drove to work! We've got a bit of snow and driving conditions are bad enough, I can't believe the stupidity of cyclists and pedestrians though, seriously, who would walk out or push their bike out onto the road and get in the way of a car struggling up a snowy hill and cause it to have to stop? Turns out quite a few people, and saw a lot of people just walking out in front of cars in what is really slippery conditions, there were warnings on the radio to pedestrians telling them not to do that so it's not just me. Rant over.

Yep, we ain’t used to bad weather in the Uk. Red weather warnnings out with risk to life messages. We got snow! And people are driving around on summer tyres. Schools closed. People going awol because there’s snow. Chaos! In fairness we get so little weather this bad we aren’t prepared. I’m in a tiny commune in the Alps at 1540 metres on a dead end street and I have a snow plough come and clear the road when snow is bad. The other day I was skiing in -25 C, my mate at Val had the diesel in his car freeze. For two days he couldn’t leave his apartment because of avalanche risk. It’s another world. Expectations I guess. Nikki plus new baby and dog driving out here overnight. She’s made it to the tunnel so should be ok now. I blame global warming.

I did this Sunday, it was one of five runs (not my best one) I did get 3rd in my class but I just realized today that my entire chest, shoulders and upper arms are achy as hell. this was a total of about five minutes of driving in forces of maybe 1.4 G max. I can't imagine F1 driver's level of fitness to drive around, let's say Monaco for and hour and a half.

But gadgets are getting very clever. And I thought maybe you could print one and they’d deduct it from your account and then burn one.....it’s not a bad idea. Gov’ments just print it willy nilly anyway.
