Ricciardo should do better in 2018, there were a few drivers in 2017 who couldn't get on with the suspension tricks that were going on and Ricciardo was one of them but Verstappen wasn't so it will be interesting how 2018 goes.
I personally see Ricciardo moving to Mercedes.

For me its simple as that apart from the engine factor for RB in 2019, Ricciardo has to beat Max first and not capitalize on Max’s misfortune before considering a move at Mercedes. Imagine if Ocon beats Perez while Verstappen beats Ricciardo. What will be Ricciardo’s arguments to convaince Mercedes to take him instead of Ocon ? That hes a funny clown ? And for all the people who said Ricciardo will be nothing than a second driver so he needs to move. I say this, Its Ricciardo job to show and prove that hes more than a second driver. We dont really need to built a fake conspiracy to back him because I am pretty sure all facts will be against him if he doesnt perform jut like Kimi last season.

Verstappen first teammate to challenge me - RicciardoRicciardo even when he is beaten regularly, he continues to proclaim loudly that he is better. He is a little bit too presumptuous for me. While he dominated a diminished Vettel (unable to drive with the new electric brakes), it is quite possible that a few other drivers would have dominated Vettel too. And apart from that, nothing : he will have been matched by Vergne 2 years in a row, then the same with Kvyat.
When Verstappen arrived at Red Bull in full season, he was almost as good as Ricciardo before even setting his car to his taste. He also completely extinguished him in Brazil under the rain, allowing himself in less than 20 laps to pass 3 cars, then Ricciardo, then another 7 cars to finish on the podium.
Obviously, in 2017, if we look stupidly the result, Ricciardo is ahead of Verstappen. But if we look more in detail, it appears that it doesnt reflect the performance of both drivers during tve season.
Let's not forget last season, RB had absolutely no competition for the 5th and 6th place, most of the time they had no chance to do better on a regular basis also. However, Verstappen, who was already in front of Ricciardo in qualifying, won 17 places in the first lap all grand prix combined against 5 to Ricciardo. I let you imagine the result if the Red Bull had competition.
Ricciardo is a good driver, no doubt, but not necessarily better than Vergne or Kvyat, and maybe not the same caliber of Verstappen, much younger meaning that he has more potential.
If it makes sense to start a campaign of valorization since he is on the market, I am not sure he adopts the good approach to assert something a little extreme. He pushes us to look in more detail and it's ultimately counterproductive. Many are convinced that he is above the pack, since he has crushed a quadruple world champion. In his place, I would sign before the wave falls.

I have no doubt that Verstappen is better than Ricciardo. I also have no doubt that Ricciardo has better racecraft and is far more consistent than Verstappen. Verstappen to me doesn't feel like a person that can wring performance out of a car the way Hamilton or Alonso could. I think there are better people at getting more out of car when it's in the window. I think both Vettel and Rosberg were very good at that. I think Ricciardo has quite a bit of that too.
The main difference between Ricciardo and Verstappen is how Verstappen is able to throw the car into situations and maintain control. There's a fearlessness, one could argue an arrogance borne out of the ignorance of youth. He's still developing. He's a talent and I'd love to see him at a team that can harness that (I think Ferrari would do better with him than Red Bull). But Ricciardo is a finished product in my opinion.
Were I to pair one of them with Lewis at Mercedes, I would likely be Ricciardo.

Ricciardo did not stand out in those years at Toro Rosso....I don't remember anything about him when paired with Vergne, etc. But he really surprised when paired with Vettel. However, not it seems Verstappen already has his measure.
It's akin to the Heidfeld and Raikkonen combo at Sauber all those years back. Heidfeld being Ricc and Raikkonen being Verstappen.
If I were a team boss looking to nab one of them it has to be Verstappen. Ricciardo is a solid driver who can make some great moves but in terms of raw speed, I don't think he can match guys like Verstappen and Hamilton on a consistent basis.
Just look whenever it rains, Ricciardo is nowhere.

I dont agree on Ricciardo being far more consistent than Verstappen last season. Verstappen's racecraft can be clueless and we know a good racecraft gives you consistency. But what does consistency stand for if you are always behind your teammate who can score more points most of the time? You never felt like Verstappen way of racing is more efficiant? No matter how Ricciardo's racecraft is good and better than Verstappen? At some point you have to show your complete package as Hammer said. For example the first 2 sentence of your second paragraph describes it pretty clearly and that is already a big difference to me and I think this is his style of driving (cf. Schumacher & Senna) and he will continue to drive like that :
'The main difference between Ricciardo and Verstappen is how Verstappen is able to throw the car into situations and maintain control. There's a fearlessness, one could argue an arrogance borne out of the ignorance of youth. He's still developing.'
Ricciardo pairing with Hamilton was my first choice to be honest until Hammer said Ocon. It makes no doubt that both of them will fight for the Mercedes seat with Bottas. I dont think Toto will look for someone else than these 3 since Hulkenberg drives for Renault.
And I agree in term of raw speed Ricciardo never amazed me. Even when he was on pole I never had the feeling that he was that kind of driver to be honest.

This year will be telling. The Renault reliability perhaps bit Verstappen harder than Ricciardo, although Ricciardo saw quite a bit of it as well. It's not like there's a chasm between the two as there is with other teammates at the sharp end. Verstappen is a work in progress but IMO the first and most pressing thing he has to learn is how to beat his teammate on points.

the guys has to be a darling of the sponsors. Yeah, I know out of all the drivers I would only want one driver to promote my business and that would be Daniel. He's funny, likable, speaks English natively, smiles a lot, is a good looking chap and he's also a very fast driver.
