I've always thought a US GP would be good to attend in a garish sort of way, that was going way too far though and totally unnecessary. And wtf is flying around in the skies over there, towards the end of the race a shadow of a massive bird crossed the track at turn 1?

LOL I swear it was some type of CGI they did. You notice that on some of the circuits they have CGI sponsored graphics on certain turns. This was the same thing. It was supposed to be a condor.

The build up was cringey. It was more like introducing a razzamataz boxing match when the drivers were called out. hope they dont keep doing that. They don’t need it. They have a fantastic track, Reign in the stewards and let the drivers race, you don’t need anything else. On the stewards....... I realise I’m outnumbered on here, but I still say that penalty was wrong. Niki Lauda agrees. Reacting to the penalty, Lauda said: "This decision is the worst I’ve ever seen. He [Verstappen] did nothing wrong. We’re racing drivers, we’re not on a normal road.
"It’s ridiculous to destroy the sport with this kind of decision."
"The stewards were in, [Jean] Todt asked everybody, Charlie [Whiting] was there, we were there, and there we agreed all together that unless it is dangerous, the stewards would not interfere.
Lauda recalled that all parties had agreed in a meeting last year to allow drivers to race without unnecessary interference.Next strategy [group] meeting we need to bring it up to the agenda and start it all over again. Because we cannot do that, it’s going too far.
"There was nothing to interfere with, it was a normal overtaking.”
The three-time world champion insisted that F1 drivers should be allowed to use all the available road surface.
“Charlie argues all the time there’s white lines and you cannot drive over them. Why cannot you drive over white lines if it is possible? Build a wall there if you want.
"As long as there is normal circuit, you can use it. A white line is not a limit. We agreed this all, last year it was all agreed. And now we get this decision. I think it’s completely wrong.”www.motorsport.com/f1/news/lauda-verstappen-us-gp-penalty-worst-decision-969285/

If it had been Vettel making that move on Hamilton at the last lap, would they'd have come to the same conclusion? As expeditiously as they did with Max?

I feel sorry for Magnussen. I think he could've been a solid driver, but McLaren ruined him and now he's frustrated at the back of the grid crashing away into others and taking it out on track. It's like the class bully who's got family problems back home, he's not a bad guy since he started out really well in McLaren next to that snake Button, and since he got shafted he's been lost at sea. He was overrated I dont know why maybe because of the way he is fighting during the race, maybe because hes a badass. He only beats 'Button' 10 - 9 in 'qualifying' and lost against him in races because of his tire management. So since his days in McLaren, he still doesnt know how to save his tires. He still struggles to figure out how hard he could lean on the tires, some races he burns up the tires, others he doesnt use the tires enough. There is no improvment, no evolution and its getting worse if you look at the last 2 years. While Hulk destroyed Palmer, Mag wasnt able to do the same quali/race pretending Palmer was fast
I think Mag is just not skilled enough.

Ultimately it boils down to inconsistent stewarding, that's the complaint and in poll Liberty did early this year is wasn't even in their line of questioning.

But you can't enforce one type of penalty and then not enforce another, like Ricciardo running Bottas wide, or allowing cars to go wide in one area, but you can't do it here? Additionally you could count on the fingers of an amputated stub hand how many times they've enforced the rule of leaving one car width while defending your position.

I can understand Lewis’ point of view. He suffered a lot in the early days at the hands of the stewards, so why should new youngsters get away with penalties. But I don’t agree with all he said and I I think the whole penalty system is a mess, needs overhauling.
I’m not disputing max putting all wheels across the line. I’m disputing the penalty. The inconsistency. I do agree with Lewis regarding the massive run offs on modern tracks.

Well if this about consistency I would not argue because thats the truth. But It doesnt change the fact that Verstappen is the only one who gained a position by cheating during the race. And before that, the FIA was fair with all the drivers who were cheating by not penalizing them during that race.

COTA is very open for corner cutting and track extending, they need to make the kerbs higher or something. Bring back gravel and real grass around the modern tracks.

110% AGREED. I've always said these new tracks are like glorified parking lots, they aren't real race tracks anymore. Real race tracks are like the old Nurburgring, San Marino, Brazil etc....where its just the track and anything apart from the track is gravel and grass. Even Spa is now dumbed down with all the stupid run off areas. Of course the aim is to help more cars finish races and not get stranded but it steals a lot from the show. Mistakes should be punished, today there is almost no penalty for mistakes you can keep making them until you get some sort of warning.

Here's a highly detailed pic I just drew. I believe that if his left wheels had been in the green zone, he would have been ok. But his left wheels were in the red zone, specifically to avoid the curbing and allow a smoother exit. That's the definition of "Gaining an advantage" in my book. I like Max, and was thrilled to hear him overtake Kimi (was looking away for that exact moment), but once the replay angles came out I couldn't personally find fault. Want to stop cars doing this? Take a look at Indy and build walls around the track.

Yes, just strips of gravel or grass would be enough, or if they hate nature so much, speed bumps like they have at Monza in the first corner. Anything which destabilizes the car a bit, this kind of stuff is not hard to implement.

If he hadn’t gone into the red zone Kimi would have crashed into him.
