Remember the good old days when you could buy a "Supercar" for a mere $150 to $200k?

I've continued the slow and steady march of progress on the car. I've been lazy about updates but spent some time this weekend taking pics to write something up here. The car is currently on jackstands so there wasn't much room to maneuver so they're kind of up close and personal and not well lit. I'll start with the thing that's taken me a bit of time but looking at the progress will bring me great rewards. The original headliner was brown and the car had brown interior with a ocher trim that had seen better days. with the black RS interior and seats, it was just DARK. So out the old headliner went and I switched to an off white color. The difference in the car is amazing, plus it will make great contrast with the black of everything else. I have spent time dying the interior brown leather portions with black shoe dye. I posted a thread a while back on how to refurb the tail with the stuff and I'm very happy with the results. The visors which thankfully are not puffy, the old brown and the newly dyed black. The trim, pre and post. The images don't do it justice, the driver's side is thoroughly cleaned dyed and buffed. Very happy with the results. I've also spent a lot of time replacing all of the door seals, every piece of rubber, the window channel, the squeegee on the outside and the trim on the inside. Of note it the felt that snaps into the door frame on the inside. After a quarter of a century there was more rust than felt left on those. Everything in the doors is spic and span clean and free of debris with a perfectly taught and sealed vapor/wind barrier. Those don't photograph well especially in the dark garage, so pics at a future date. Now for the good stuff! I am thrilled to death with the decision to update the front valance. Removing the fogs and cleaning everything up, even the license plate holes. Love the look. Still not finished the the bumpers, long story but I'm also planning some very custom work for those over the winter. I got the trim rings painted and installed and I'm thrilled with the look having lived with sugarscoops for a bit, then switching to H4 with the black trim rings, and now finishing it with the painted trim. They are IMO what's "right" for the car visually. Also loving the contrast with the moss green and the tinted French... ahhh, who am I kidding? Le Mans GT lenses. The alignment on the hood is perfection. BTW, tried to skimp on no replacing the front hood seal. It's not worth it. I bought a new seal for that as well. There's just no way to keep 29 year old rubber supple and compliant. A little bit of details from other areas... With every clip for the reflector replaced. BTW on the reflector front. I never liked the black Porsche script so I'm currently soda blasting the old paint and refurbishing that as per a couple of threads here. I will leave it all red. Half way done there and I hope to maybe finish it this weekend. Spent a lot of time on the rear wing. Lots of details that would be missed unless you know what you're looking for. 3rd brake light holes on the decklid filled. The tail painted entirely in body color, without the black surrounding the vents and replaced/refurbished all nuts, washers and hardware. Still have quite a bit of work to be done but there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Still need to pop in the rear window and quarters (have a pair of lexan quarters ready... sooo much lighter) and get the rear license plate lights wired as I need those to pass inspection but I hope to be back driving by the middle of next month.

Its looking very nice WB. I just wouldn't have the patients or the technical ability. For someone who is technically a Mechanical Engineer (on paper), Im shit with my hands.
Cant wait to see the finished results.

I have the entirety of the build documented on a Porsche forum here stateside. It's actually a good community that self supports air cooled 911s with about 3 millions posts and about 250 thousand topics. So everything and I do mean everything you could ever want to do or think about doing to an old 911 has been done and documented.
And you're right Hammer... originally I wanted the car but as I've delved into the ownership of it over the years, the work is just as enjoyable as the driving.
RC, I'm shocked you haven't come visit NYC. If you ever do, I'll take you for a ride.

That's the missus, tightly strapped into the Porsche. Tightly strapped. Well, she's very attractive! haha. On a side note, the seatbelt made me think, what have you done to the car about safety, have you made it safer than the original? (Extra airbags?, re-enforced the frame in places?) I would assume seatbelts like that are safer than seatbelts in normal cars. RyRy - stop fantasising over Mrs WB. Uhm, this is mighty awkward >_< lol making me all embarrassed! haha

There's someone on this forum that's always blaming BMW drivers for being assholes. I read this today...

LOL. I only skimmed the guys post. I'm the one that says BMW drivers tend to be arrogant arseholes who think they own the road.........
'Don't mind me, I'll just cut in here in front of you even though there's a queue, I'm a BMW driver'
' Indicate? But I'm a BMW driver'
'I'm up your arse, so what? I'm a BMW driver.'
'I know there's no one else on the motorway and Im in the fast line. I own the fast lane. I'm a BMW driver.'
