Rumours starting that Bottas needs back surgery and will not compete in next few races - supposedly Kmag is being drafted in to replace him.
No links or quotes to back this up. So salt needed.

Number of sites are reporting it, looks like a tough break for him. Williams have said Susie is not their reserve driver, so interesting to see who fills in. Not sure K-mags would be a first candidate given the fact that they're in a competition with his contracted team.

No. - they don't have a reserve driver - they have two development drivers. So basically if they don't out Susie in the car for a race now - they never will. Maybe they could hire VdG?

Bottas said he's fine and looking forward to Malaysia. Seems like rumors of his demise had been greatly exaggerated.

According to James Allen, if Bottas is not ready (does not pass a physical car exit test, after a torn backmuscle) then Pascal Wherlein will drive in his place. If thats true, and there could be financial reasons, the Pascal would be the luckiest guy around, having intimate knowledge of Merc, Force India and Williams cars. It would also of course bring a new meaning to rear gunner - not that Nico should need it If true then one would have to say Merc have taken the whole F1 rule book and strategy and exploiting the regs to a whole new level never seen before. Imagine having your own spy test driver in your main competitor and your customers cars. No wonder Red Bull are in complete disarray and are bumbling their way to the exit in shock. They could get lapped by Mercs test driver next week

Some other drivers and rival team members are sort of saying similar things about the Mercedes kicking ass.
Worrying signs already well before Melbourne.

Well comparing last year and even the year before's testing... Mercedes look further ahead this year than the previous 2 years. I just hope for Ferrari's sake that they have MUCH more to give.

www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2016/04/03/316829/In addtion to his drive through, he has been given points on his licence. I think thats harsh - it was a first corner indecent - there should be more leniency. The drive through was enough.

He clearly went too fast into the corner, didn't really have any pressure from behind so wasn't careful enough and because of the incident he damaged several cars.
It was very similar to the Raikkonen & Bottas incident last year so it's a repeat incident, all be it at the start of a race this time.

I thought Bottas was under pressure from Ricciardo ?
And that 'at the beginning of the race' is a pretty big difference.

Yeah, but not a huge amount of pressure that is going to cause him to go way too fast into the corner. He's done the same thing twice now, that deserves a bigger punishment to try and make it not happen again.

You know, I thought it was a step above a racing incident and the penalty was justified. It was sloppy on his part and I'm glad it also ruined his race, probably the best way to teach a lesson, but it wasn't egregious as much as it was embarrassing.
I think Williams is finding themselves on the back foot and frustration, at least on the part of Bottas is showing.

Worst kept secret of the year. Good for Bottas, hopefully he can push Hamilton even more than Rosberg. I'm looking forward to a very tight constructors championship in 2017. If Mercedes runs away with it again, then they will go down as the masters of the sport. Bottas needs to show his stuff for that.
