Funny you posted that RC... He's right about one thing though. Still Hamilton hasn't done quite enough for the sport as Vettel, I mean he hasn't come around to offer his daughter's hand to Hamilton as he did to Vettel a few years back.

And the latest. He wants an all female F1 series to gain interest in F1. Suzie Wolf has slated the idea. Why she says would I want to only race against women when I've been a 'normal' racing driver all my carreer? ' she also asked where he's going to get a grid full of female drivers at a level that they can take on an F1 car. www.mirror.co.uk/sport/formula-1/bernie-ecclestones-proposal-all-woman-f1-5418481I think it's demeening to female drivers to suggest they race in their own series. Women need help to get them into racing, to change attitudes, to encourage them into the sport, but not this.

Bernie might as well start posting in forumulaonedotcom with all these cockamamie ideas of what F1 needs. Fit right in.

I don't know why I surprised anymore.

The only time Suze has done any well is when it is women only championships.... how can she say she has only ever been a normal driver. Look at the championships she has entered!!!

But she races against men! She's in there giving it a go. Ok she's not quite there, but she's fought on a level playing field and that's what women have to do if they're going to be taken seriously in this sport. Once you go down the route of, 'oh, it's the time for the little ladies!', theyre lost as serious racing drivers. There's lots of work still to be done to get women taking on the men in this sport , but to give them an all woman series is a backward step.

But then what about tennis. Women aren't thought of as "oh its time for the little ladies", they actually have higher viewership compared to men! I don't know if the skirts help with that and I know its tough to replicate that in F1 (lol) but it COULD work in my view. We don't see Serena Williams saying "I wanna go against Federer!!"
The best women in motorsports, not a bad tag line and something a female racer should be really proud of.
The main issue is the costs though, to hold two separate events....how's that going to work.

Tennis is completely different. In sports where woman need to use their muscles for power then they are at a disadvantage and can't competete . Running events, football, rugby etc etc. In motor racing the power is the car, and woman have the same tools as the guys to control that car. They have to be fit sure, but it's not about power, and in some ways woman's ability to multi task may be an advantage in some instances. Suzie competed against men from her karting days. She used to race against Lewis. I d hate to see two events, and I bet you so would all the women racers. It's an event they can compete in equally, and will do in the future Im sure. Making a separate series would put their cause back years.

I'm not sure if women have the necessary tools for F1 either. Read an article before on an F1 magazine with a sports specialist saying women lack the upper body endurance to go blow for blow with guys over a race distance. It was on an F1 Racing magazine some time back. Women could compete for the first 20-25 laps on average but after that it fades off slightly.
I would personally love to have women and men race side by side, it adds so much to the show. But my argument is, if not even one woman showed potential to climb to an F1 seat on merit until today, it must mean they do not have all the tools required doesn't it. Because as a team principal, if I spotted one young lady who even showed the tiniest potential to take it to everyone else in F1 I'd snap her up in a jiffy. Even if she fails, my team still featured the first female racing driver and it's one for so many records.
What is stopping this? Suzie has come closest with a testing role, but notice she wouldn't need to do more than 30 laps at a stretch in an F1 car...and even if she does, there is no way to gauge the performance.

Its a bit of a vicious circle though, to a certain degree.
Not enough girls are interested in going Karting at 8 years of age. And until they do, there will not be a big enough selection of females drivers. But until there are more female drivers at the top level, you wont raise the interest level in 8 year old girls to go Karting.
There could be some unbelievable naturally talented young females out there, that have never thought about getting in a Kart.

I don't believe the physicality issues, I do think it's exactly what LRW said. Getting in there early and building the career the same way successful male drivers do. There is a cause and effect thing going on though, as if there was a woman's league there would be more girls attracted to racing.

I agree LRW. And I think the lower formulas are addressing this and far more girls are coming through now. Suzie was an exception when she asked her parents if she could pursue racing, it isn't such an unusual thing now. I remember Lewis going back to his old karting track to chat with the kids, and there was a very large proportion of girls.
I'm not convinced about the lack of endurance if the girls are fit and trained. If it was bursts of power required maybe , but endurance, I can't see why they can't train to cope with that. Danica races Nascars and doesn't find herself incapacitated halfway through the race. It's training. Senna used to collapse after races, so trained and he overcame it. They didn't used to let women vote, or fly planes, or fight in the army. But they do those things just fine now.

If there was a womans league it would forever be considered second best. And I would be put off if there was a woman's league. I think the girls want to compete and beat the men , not have a dumbed down version.

Funnily enough, came across this article today, about another sport with similar issues (I believe) with a lack of women in the sport, mainly due to it being seen as a mans sport... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/snooker/32162385

Is it merely a coincidence that Russia and Qatar are the two latest world cup hosting countries which coincidentally happen to be two of the countries to get a GP and be pushed for by Bernie to get a GP?
Nah... Fi(F)A are both as corrupt.
