racechick (or anyone else) have you ever been to a Tomorrowland event? A friend of mine goaded me yesterday with this vid saying if I make it for this year I can bunk at his place. And I'm sorta haunted by the images here and seriously thinking about it. Tho I know this vid is capturing the best parts of everything, it still looks pretty damn awesome. Nothing I know of in Asia comes close, everyones busy being a freakin nerd and wasting their life in pollution. (I'm a proud Asian). The ticket is reasonable, but what's a killer for me is the flights. Anyone have miles they don't want PM me.

No never been to one. Never heard of them before. Looks an awesome place and party . These days I find those sort of events a bit anonymous. I'd rather be with good friends having a nice meal and good wine . ( sign of age? ) though I'm up for a dance wherever I am lol. I do fancy going to London for the new year having watching the fireworks.
I think if I were you and planning to fly to Europe, I'd do it when there's a couple of back to back F1,races.

Sounds like a plan! Attend a European F1 race, and then take a train to Tomorrowland.

Bangkok. Well I arrived early this morning. And that's weird because I was at Heathrow in the morning. So somehow I missed out a night. But that's time zones. I don't get them. And I don't like sleeping much either so it doesn't matter., I think I landed on the weekend of the Thai water squirting festival. It might be their new year, champagne was being drunk and some people said 'happy new year' . But mostly it was all about water squirting. And I mean SERIOUS water squirting! All along the streets sellers were selling massive super soakers and plastic pockets to protect your phone. Koa San Rd was packed! Shoulder to shoulder and everyone was squirting water guns. It took about an hour to go 200 meters and I was soaked. This was the afternoon. So coming out to dinner in the evening, I kindov expected similar, so dressed minimally . Vest top, knickers, shorts and flip flops, that was it. Well the water games had escalated. No longer was it just water guns , it was hoses and buckets thrown over you. Can you imagine the delight for the kids? ANY adult was fair game . They could throw buckets of water over anyone who passed them...and boy did they! And another sideline to water throwing had emerged, the daubing of white clay on your face and hair. So when I eventually found a place to eat, I didnt quite have the look I'd been hoping for. Completely soaked through to the skin after several buckets of water were thrown over over me, I was also daubed with clay . And the clever idea of minimal clothes wasn't such a good idea......vest top.....wet through.....cold water......fans in restaurants....I'll leave it there. But I wasn't the only one sitting with my arms crossed! We needn't have bothered really, no one noticed Bangkok was rockin!

Flying back to Bangkok today. Then a coach trip to Hua Hin by the coast.
Hopefully there I'll have a bit more time to post some pics and tell you about Laos.

So here I am at Hua Hin, beach resort about three and a half hours by coach from Bangkok. It's a big town with all facilities, hotel is on the beach and a twenty minute or so walk, along the beach or the road, gets you into the bar and restaurant part. I'm under an umbrella at the moment writing this as a thunderstorm is brewing. It's the start of the rainy season.
Ok that was several hours ago. Finishing off after returning form "bar area".
Back to Laos. For any one interested in visiting, Luang Prabang is the place to go. I'd imagined Laos would be , maybe less exposed to the wider world? More difficult to find the trappings of our cosseted Western lives. But I was wrong. French colonialism , despite its horrors, has left behind some gems. The architecture here has clear French colonial influence. And wine! I was expecting to struggle with wine, but there are wine shops aplenty and it's freely available in bars and restaurants; as is decent coffee! These two essentials of life are still difficult to come by in many parts of Shanghai! Though the situation has improved massively over the last few years. Back to Luang Prabang - it's a beautiful place, not a big place, it's on the Mekong where another river joins. It's like a sophisticated travellers place. Lots of available trips form there. I went to a beautiful waterfall. Also on a two hour trip up the Mekong...on a little boat.. to a cave where there were hundreds and hundreds of Buddha statues, brought in the past by people. Along the side of the river I saw water buffalo chilling in the water. Lots of Monks in the whole are wearing orange robes. My hotel in Luang Prabang was stunning! Set around four or five lily ponds, had a pool as well. Absolutely beautiful! All Luang Prabang is low rise, no high rise at all. The area is famous for cotton and fabrics and many of the local women weave and sell things on the night market or in their villages. Will post this then try to do some pics.......ten hours later probably no pics!

Rickety bridge over that river ( can't remember name) that joined into the Mekong. I went over it! Was scared I'd drop my phone in while I took pictures!
