I remember asking the question, I don't remember getting an answer. No wonder you're sucking at the fantasy pool and forum game, you're hooked. Now I have to go back and take a second look. And no wonder you haven't posted anything on the car.

Place looks lovely Hammer, great pics! No I haven't been there. I've only been to Penang and Langkawi....and the airport at Kuala Lumpa. But it's on the list to spend a little more time in other parts of Malaysia. Certainly wil take a look at Kuala Lumpa itself. 12- 20 degrees? Brrrrrrrrr. Looks like it might be a bit spidery. The big sort. Is it? I like the monkey. I saw those on that hill at Penang. Girlfriend looks lovely too.

And no wonder you haven't posted anything on the car. The car is back at home....but not functional. Waiting for another workshop to get free to tow it there, the guy can't solve a wiring issue where engine can't be cranked using the ignition. Most likely a small thing but I got fed up waiting for that guy and got the car back. Sending it to a guy I know will do the job, but he's full up at the moment.

I loved the weather and definitely the thing I miss most. I think UK weather would fit perfectly for me, I really don't like the sun at all. No spiders....at least no intimidating ones, but we had leeches! On the last trail (called Maxwell trail, hardest and longest by far) we both had leeches coming at us and I had to deal with the gf screaming as if a cobra had dug its fangs into her every 5 minutes until she got the hang of it. My feet are still itchy now from all the wounds thanks to the little bastards. But lovely trails though. You'd find all the trails to be friendly and well maintained except for Maxwell. We managed to cover all but 1 but feedback from other tourists was similar, maxwell trail is by far the most challenging. Unfortunately we did this trail on checkout morning so at the end we weren't enjoying it so much and wanted it to end since we had to get back to the hotel. Fortunately they were kind and let us have 2 extra hours to get out.

Yep, those temperatures are pretty much UK summer temps ( which is why I leave the UK a lot! LOL.) I have a break off temp. It's 18deg. It's a temp where vest tops and sundresses can just about be tolerated. Anything below that is devil weather! Unless your skiing, then it's good. If I'm not skiing I prefer it to be high 20's to high 30's bliss! But you know, there is this thing in the UK where 'weather' disrupts things. You'd think we'd be used to'weather' , sicnce we have so much if it, but no, it defeats us, particularly our transport systems......... We rarely get real snow, but when we do...... - trains can't run ( it's the wrong sort of snow! ) - motorways grind to a halt . Snowploughs and gritters are causght completely unawares. People are trapped in cars - old people fall over and break bones or die of hyperthermia - schools close. In Autumn, we get 'leaves on the train tracks' . Once again, trains can't run. In summer...... Despite having more rain and drizzle and 'meh' weather , as soon as the sun pokes its head out from the clouds, we have 'hosepipe bans' . Brits are then employing ingenious methods of watering their gardens , this whilst the sun has retreated and the rain is back. The hose pipe ban remains. Though the summer temperatures in the UK are dire, there are brief interludes of hot weather. During these interludes the following happens.... - old people die of heat stroke - shops sell out of, paddling pools, BBQ fuel, ice lollies - people swim in unsuitable places ( canals, gravel pits etc) they drown or get diseases. We don't have suitable hot weather swimming places because it's hardly ever hot. - roads melt and the gritters that were so unprepared in the winter dump their grip on the melting tarmac. That's the UK weather. Do you still fancy it Hammer ?

That's the UK weather. Do you still fancy it Hammer ? Hmm you paint a bit of a difficult picture, but at least you have a change in seasons you know. It's one thing I enjoyed in Switzerland, the year was divided into few parts of life and you don't get that living on the Equator. It's just hot humid sun with lots of rain most of the year. I enjoy the rain and storms, but that's it. I loved my sleep in Switzerland, no fans buzzing, no aircond noises, just silence and the cold. It really was bliss for me, the winter is something which I cherished and I long to move to a cold country to get a lot more of the winter. I realize the crappy parts of it too, the sleet (old snow), driving problems in snow, but I think I'd really want to spend at least 5-8 solid years in a very different climate. Who knows, I might miss boring old predictable Msia after the 5 years! But the thought of settling here for the rest of my life, it's very depressing. Feels like I'm missing out on a lot of what this planet has to offer.

There's time@Hammer, there's time. Travel when you can and see where you feel happy and comfortable. I think you'd love the Alps. Here you can sometimes have the four seasons in a couple of days. Very hot when the suns out , in the thirties sometimes, but dry heat and usually a nice breeze; then it can drop.....Right down to single figures.

Fancy landing here? It's near the top of Val D'Isere, probably THE most expensive ski resort in France. My chalet isn't here, but can get there in about 40 Mins, a friend has a small appartment there and I stayed recently.) little planes land here, in winter they're on skis. Helicopters also land here. I walked up from Val , about 10000 metres climb and about 17 miles in distance. Then got the cable car down. Some stunning scenery on the way. s21.postimg.org/ofw60zbmf/IMG_5937.jpgs21.postimg.org/qlv2984gn/IMG_5932.jpg

In the Alsace. It's a place that has changed hands many times between Germany and France, and the influence of both is clear. Wanted to show you some pics of the things iVe seen, beautiful architecture, forts, castles , fortifications along the Maginot line, but can't get my phone in wifi at moment to transfer the pics, so that will have to stay on hold. Did some wine tasting too. The Alsace is famous for wine.

In the meantime I'll rewind a week or so to the few days I spent in Italy, based in Genova. Genova was once a thriving port, still is a port, but it was a big trading port in the past and many Genovese were rich off the back of it. One street , that had grand houses owned by rich traders is now a world heritage site. Most of the buildings now house museums or art galleries. Incredible buildings. Back in the day, these rich merchants would take turns to host royalty when it visited the city, so you can imagine the splendour. Walk away from the central parts and you still find breathtaking architecture, old churches, houses aplenty. They can't all be preserved. Genova is like a jigsaw puzzles of beauty fitting together. Some of the less central buildings have fallen from grandeur and are now used as offices, apartments or such like. In some areas is evidence of ANTIFA scum doing their evil. Beautiful stonework cheaply scarred with graffiti and windows on lower floors broken. Sad. Yet still a joy to wander round these streets and imagine the ghosts of times gone by. Just a little street... A place in a backstreet where I had the most delicious meal! s26.postimg.org/43u38e7a1/IMG_6144.jpg

One day was a trip by boat to Portafino, an tiny fishing port and now a big tourist attraction. There were massive preparations underway for some mega concert and a big floating platform was beginning prepared for the event. Found an AMAZING bar on the headland. Just rounded a corner and there it was! Complete with freshly made cocktails, champagne, Prosseco, all the nice stuff! I'll just post a few pics of Portafino..... s26.postimg.org/yb70uc5eh/IMG_6056.jpg

Hadn't seen those last pictures, is that a river or a lake? It looks insane, the color of Caribbean beaches. It's the Isere river. Val D'Isere is the famous ski resort, the river flows down from there and contains glacial waters which make it so blue. It flows down into a man made reservoir, you can see the reservoir on one of the pictures. They flooded an area to make that reservoir included the village of Tignes which remains intact under the water . Tignes is now another another big ski resort , purpose built and taking its name from the original mountain village, it links with Val. It's a huge combined ski area. Also beautiful in the summer. Val and Tignes are about half an hours drive up the valley from my chalet.
