Kubica to Renault made sense in that the drivers market for 2018 could have wound up (as it has so far) with the "major" players staying put and Renault only having an option to run more juniors. Senna, Petrov, Magnussen, Palmer .... the past few years haven't exactly been great for them with rookies, so it made sense that if a former driver with the talent and hunger to prove his worth again would be a good fit. Does anyone doubt that Kubica would have pushed that car to it's absolute limit if he had been given 1 shot at redemption (and if fitness wasn't an issue)?
As for Jacques, he came to F1 with a MASSIVE chip on his shoulder, and fell into a Williams that was at it's peak. He could have won the WDC the first season if Sir Frank hadn't felt bad for Damon and kept team orders. But after that, he was nowhere and has only won a single race since the end of that 1997 season, across all the categories he's tried. He now wallows in the "I was someone special!" category, looking for attention wherever he can get it, and afraid that Stroll might one day win races and outshine his history.

It's going to be great watching McLaren and Red Bull cat fight over the best Renault scraps available, Renault will also have its team interest in mind first and foremost. I doubt new developments would go to the customers first.

Thanks for the memories Jolyon! erm.... How about that race where he... oh, that was Mangussen. Oh, the one with the amazing overtake... oh, that was Hulkenburg. I know! The brilliant drive from last to... nope, that was an F1 2017 game replay. hmmm Yes! His brilliant drive to 10th in Malaysia 2016! Oh wait, he only got 10th after Lewis lost an engine, and both McHonda's beat him. Never mind. At least we've had 2 years of "His name is WHAT? That's a girls name isn't it?"

Man just looking at the WCC now, Renaults biggest mistake of the year was not sacking Palmer much earlier. 5th was on the plate for them, if Hulks car stayed a bit more reliable for 2 races they'd already be right with Williams. Even now if I were them I'd aim to overhaul Williams, just 20 points between them, 2 solid 2 car finishes will get them 5th easy.

Also feel Sainz will be quicker than Hulk eventually on a regular basis, should've ditched slow Jo earlier.

The mysterious dynamic benches of death have not yet become democratized. Viry has just acquired a new dynamical test bench that will test and develop the power unit with the gearbox and develop the power unit in the best conditions. And thats all we have as cyclops informations.
