I hope this is a long and busy thread. I'm glad he's getting his shot, maybe the planets aligned, maybe the right people are pulling strings but I can't help feel that there's a yet unidentified link to Haas as part of this five race deal with Manor Marussia.
Congratulations and welcome to the show.

Yes I'm glad he's getting a drive, and he's getting the US drive which should help boost F1 in the states a bit more prior to Haas joining.

Impressive drive in first practice, only 1 hundredth slower than his team mate which for his first run in the car is bloody good

Rossi's stated reason for choosing his number. I shit you not.

What's the significance of this car? Is this Herbie?

Ah so it is Herbie. My mum had the 1964 model for a while (passed down by granddad) during my childhood and I really didn't like that car since it broke down pretty often. But one good thing was its LOUDNESS. I'd be playing video games at home and could hear the car taking the turn into my neighbourhood and had plenty of time to shut everything down and grab a textbook.

Given the drives he put in for Manor last year, he's certainly earned the opportunity. Let's see how far the American money potential can take him. Certainly will never match the Middle East, Russian, or Venezuelan money potential to buy a seat, but it could more than make up for it in actual visibility and value add.
