The battle of Germany is on... we should start a Vettel V Rosberg thread.

www1.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/9814890/conclusions-from-the-bahrain-gpThere is a relevant bit for this thread... Peter Gill writes..."Now that the dust has settled, it's obvious in hindsight that we all missed the inadvertent main point of Nico Rosberg's scattergun rant in Shanghai. Rosberg's frustration didn't boil over because he was beaten by superior speed...but because the thinking man's driver realised he had been out-thought by a racer-turned-driver. Learning to win the slow way, the box office magnet of F1 has become a little boring, and all the better for it."

The one thing Peter Gill misses in his exuberant cleverness is that, winning the slow way is a luxury for those in reliable 2 sec cars. And Lewis just got one of those. The guy with the biggest balls and most talent can do everything everyone else can do, but they can never do what he can do - Nico can be cautious and analytical, so can Lewis, Lewis can race really well, those who cant get labelled smooth, cerebral, complete, consistent etc Its like hearing a wannabe model described as having a great personality lol

Yeah he was praising him which is good. Maybe one day there will no longer be a need to praise him or congratulate him for evolving. For me a great racer is automatically able to adapt to all these things and take all these approaches when the context demands it. Drive aggresive, smooth, slow, conservative etc etc - its the 'being a great racer' that guarantees this. When a driver isnt one of the greatest then he will have a 'sty;le' that he is defined by - smooth etc. The best will be anything the circumstance demand, and Lewis has been that since 2007 IMHO, there is not a single example of him adapting the wrong way or failing to adapt to anything that defines the conditions. So this 'oh Lewis is suddenly learnt to drive slow, or to not showboat, or to be boring' is all padding Take Seb for example, when he had his 2 sec car he always wanted the fastest lap and couldnt resist the finger, Lewis has always being more 'boring' in the sense Gill is referring to - i.e he already had no urge to showboat for a thrill or drive fast for 'excitement or stats etc' yet its lewis who has now learnt to be calm and cerebral, christ, the rookie in 2007 finished on the podium in his first 7 races but has just larnt ho to cruise and collect? But the article is on the right track in general, I can find anything to rant about sometimes

I too, have nothing but admiration for Lewis' journey in F1...a lot of it I've shared with you & RC....we have argued & fought back against the half wits...that cannot see the sheer genius that is LewisH.
Lewis used to be hurt by press/tv crap & lies. But nowadays he comes straight back at interviewers/press...at his last Presser, he was questioned re the 'champagne podium' nonsense, he replied to some Hack...I don't read the papers, you people twist everything I say... About a year ago...Nico said the same thing to the press...when they quoted Lewis as saying...that he was going to break Nico mentally...Lewis didn't say that...but Ms McKensie (AliG fame) of the BBC was the twister... Hey Cooki...you've written some of the best rants ever...(thumbs up)

Maturity helps, a multi-WDC helps as well, but a lot of it IMO is the pressure removed from breaking through into another plane. The plane he's in at the moment.
In the end, I'd rather this year see a Mercedes Ferrari battle than a Nico Lewis pseudo battle we got last year.

Absolutely....but I'd rather see Lewis & Kimi duking it out... it should be edge of seat stuff... I don't see Vettel as a hard but fair racer...like they are

I'd never thought of it in that way. One of my issues with Vettel especially in his starts is his utter lack of sportsmanship pushing others aside. He's certainly got that Schumacher trait down pat. He's the only guys we've seen in years that when he's on the first row, his primary goal is to squeeze and block the car beside him. He's managed to get away with it more often than not, but even in the Bharain GP, he held up Rosberg to allow Kimi to get around. I'm sure that was pre-discussed. Another thing we saw with Vettel is his instant finger pointing, like blaming Checo for taking his front wing off when it was his brakes that had failed. He immediately came on the radio blaming him, and then the story changed. Kimi is one guy that I would have no worries should Lewis find himself along side of. There would be plenty of birth given and he always races clean.

I did originally put Vettel had a Schumi-nesque...'Get him out of my way' arrogance...
The Perez incident...the pundits were thinking Vettel's wheel had not been fitted securely & the brake thing was a smokescreen so he didn't get an unsafe release penalty... Was it Malaysia where he was whinging on the team radio... saying Lewis was going too slow(is this a German thing:-) behind the safety car... I think he is the least sporting driver by a long chalk...& I didn't like the fact he said that Spa tyre-slashing was a racing incident...
Lewis & Kimi would be great team mates

Lewis & Kimi would be great team mates That was actually the point McLaren set the seeds for their current grid location They had a chance to pair Kimi and Lewis, Ron wanted this, Kimi was willing to return. Instead the worst TP in history (statistically) sent the average F1 fan or Mac follower into a state of desbelief and shock by getting Button cheap and then tried to make a purse out of a sows ear. His reasoning along the lines of 'they are both WDCs, and one is much much cheaper and talks to sponsors and is willing to be disturbingly 'grateful' That was the start of the slie. Imagine Kimi and Lewis for the 4 years - a motivated (by lewis) Kimi,no back stabbing, no steak dinners, no corruption and politicking = 2 or more titles, sponsors, fans, goodwill Racing on track with the real 'fire and ice' deal = sponsors clamouring Instead McLaren are now with the doss house version, moody and duckie

Cooki that would have been the best pairing for my then favourite team....they would have been world beaters...the love for Lewis & kimi is immense, Fire & Ice would have been brilliant...
Kimi showed his worth when he was at Lotus, they treated him shabbily...no wages...& he was driving with a back problem....so he left had back surgery & took up Ferrari offer. He got a load of bad press because he didn't say what had happened at Lotus...until much later...
I do feel sorry for Ron...but I am suprised that he didn't see through Whitless...& boot him out pronto...MW put a lot of value on having Number One on another McLaren car...& Button brought that worthless token...Lewis has shown what he thinks about such things...last years gone...let's do it again... People can see through corporate crap...they want genuine, no wonder McLaren were looking like a swarm of logo locusts had gone over their cars... I expect MW now... has only got eyes for the disturbingly good looking Ben Ainslie:-)
As for moody & duckie...they deserve one another & they don't spoil another couple...

Weaktrash colluded with reichsleiter max to get Ron out of the paddock, (Ron agreed to let his assistant cover), twatsplash then agreed to trial Kers, then killed Fota, then tried to steal McLaren from Ron by designating Ron a 'bad leaver' shareholder (challenged Ron at board level) and then trying a de facto 'no buy-in management hostile boardroom takeover' (appeal to majority shareholders to to be their man) Unfortunately, no matter how much one dresses up a pig and sticks mascara on it, at the end of the day it remains a pig when it rains. So in the end the shareholders had to reinstall Ron as chief exec when they realised the pig would never fly. And is why wimpcrash got terminated with extreme prejudice from Mclaren history But this is all old news, and it worked out for Lewis albeit at the expense of his old mentor (Merc are now the old McLaren). At least Ron has the Automotive company doing well

Having barely gotten through the first sentence, I had to stop to try and figure out what language you were speaking. I had to read that twice. Such fun!

I think Hamilton regards Mercedes as his old home as much as Mclaren ever was. They bankrolled him from 13 yrs old. He refers to this long standing relationship and the trust involved when he mentions his contract negotiations. I still get angry when I think of all Whitmarsh did with that false snake smile, and how people fell for it. Best forget it. It did Lewis a big favour in the end. But yes, a shame what he did to Ron, Ron is a hundred times the man Whitmarsh could ever dream of being.
Anyway Hamilton v Rosberg..........has Rosberg developped 'bite'? Or will he wilt again in front of Lewis???

Nico said he had been watching vids of last year's Bahrain GP... On Sunday, his moves on Ferrari boys during race, were similar to Lewis' on him last year... From the start of last year, with the 25 points Oz gift...Nico's comment that he was leading the WDC 'at the moment'...said a lot. Now he's trying to be positive but must know that it's near impossible to beat an on-form Lewis, bar dnfs or cheating etc ...hope he's not wilting...Lewis loves a fight for the win...
Cooki...I'm still laughing at Wimpcrash.....:-)

I hope he's not wilting too! I'd rather he fight than resort to cheating or the recent rather sad figure he's been cutting. I think he'd rather fight too. He knows he drove well on Sunday, and the sad figure, the defensive figure, the moaning figure, was gone. So for his own peace of mind , for our entertainment, and to keep Lewis on his toes, we need the fighting Nico!
