So the rumours are strong, that the take over of F1 from CVC will begin tomorrow, by Liberty Media. Listening to BBC Radio 4 this morning on the way into work, they said that tomorrow Liberty Media will purchase a 10% stake in F1, for £800M - with a buy-out of CVCs remaining shares (total of 35%) to be completed in 6 months. One of the more interesting points they say is - Bernie will need to work on his CV (résumé for you weirdos). I'll be honest I hadn't really heard of Liberty Media much until this. Apart from the Bernie thing, the other major point is who Liberty Media are. In the UK they own Virgin Media, so this will inevitably mean another change of TV station for the broadcasting of F1. As part of the deal Liberty is requesting Bernie's taxidermied body be displayed in their lobby.

The way they asked Button to drive for McLaren for the next two years. He's done, this is simply a part of the negotiation. He'll die before then of course.

Liberty Media's 'select opportunities' for F1:
• Increase promotion and marketing of F1 as a sport and brand • Enhance distribution of content, especially in digital • Establish broader range of commercial partners, including sponsorship • Evolve race calendar • Leverage Liberty's expertise in live events and digital monetisation
Liberty Media described Formula 1 as a "low risk business model with long-term contracts", and estimates approximately $9.3 billion of revenue through the next 10 years.

Man guys like Ecclestone don't just drop dead one day. These guys no matter how d!ckhead they are, are extremely driven individuals....they'll go on till they just can't get up from bed and then die. I admit I look up to him for his energy and drive, you can't deny his spirit. Even if its just for making money at this stage.

Sof after digesting this bit of unknown for a couple of days now, here's what I think. I'd like to know where your thoughts are. (entirely keeping the Bernie dislike out of it)
This may be a good thing, it may not be a good thing. It's a corporate entity purchasing a sport. A big sport at at time that the price was right due to where the powers that be have brought it. This seems to be a (long term low risk as they put it) investment and a fresh POV will bring with it fresh ideas. The sport has been clearly lagging on digital presence, in streaming, gaming and in add on purchases.
The old school mentality of squeezing the rock for more and more water is what's driven prices hundreds of dollars for a mediocre seat and has kept a lot of fans away from the circuits making the venue owners pay more and make less in order to sate the beast.
There's a world of opportunity in offering say a streaming channel or content through Netflix and certainly the content in the F1 app is utter crap for the cost and what you get from it.
I'll sit on this one and wait until 2017 to see what's introduced, where they go and how they plan to begin to right the business side of the ship.

Kudos on the new thread name and subtitle. Very appropriate.
Back on topic however, it's hard not to have your interest piqued by all the things being said so far by their CEO.

It was making the rounds late last night... I think it's just a matter of confirming it. I'm liking the Liberty media direction more and more with every announcement.
