My sources tell me this isn't true.
They have put this out there as a cover up for who they have really employed.
Martin Whitmarsh.

www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/10649108/ross-brawn-open-to-f1-return-working-alongside-bernie-ecclestoneRoss Brawn interview with Natalie Pinkhan... "Brawn's interview with Natalie Pinkham can be seen in a special edition of The F1 Report, published at the top of the page. Asked directly whether he could return to F1 in a 'dream team' partnership alongside marketing guru Zak Brown, Brawn acknowledged: "I would be interested in such a role but there are so many things that need to be resolved first. "The one thing that Bernie is not is immortal, none of us are, and at some point he has to put his pen down. He's a very special person, he's created most of what we are dealing with today, and there will never be a replacement for Bernie. Actually working for Bernie may be a fun and interesting thing to do."

Variety is not the usual place you'd expect to read a story about Formula 1, but there it is, just like that. Some of the details and directions are positive, others are right down the center of the capitalist alley, make no mistake about it though, the Yanks are coming.

Teams rejected buying shares in F1 which I found interesting, but also good because it keeps things impartial and fair.

I'm interested in the logistics of 25 races, each one being a week long event. Seems like the summer and winter breaks will be gone.

I'm interested in how they'd host a week long event in a venue like Bahrain or China that can't fill the grandstands on race day.

A less appealing aspect of Liberty is more pay to view . This article talks mainly about that plus some other things Liberty hope to achieve, like protecting the European GP's ( which I think Silverstone are banking on) and expanding more races in the US There's a table in this article showing international viewing figures and British viewing figures. And how they've dropped with pay to view. www.forbes.com/sites/csylt/2017/01/22/exclusive-liberty-planning-more-pay-tv-for-f1/#433c5b244b8f

In the US viewers have become accustomed to having to have pay channels in order to watch their favorite sports.

Same in the U.K. Many sports are now pay to view. But many people refuse to pay. 17% drop off in viewing figures is quite a significant loss.

In another article (cant remember where right now) - they did concede that a mixture of pay-to-watch and free to air is probably the best solution. (as we have now)

Our stupid cable provider here offers 'packages'. Which means we must either take up all sports channels + Natgeo/Documentary...or movie channels + Documentaries....or Sports and Movies....or all.
Which means I'd be paying a lump sum amount just to watch TV for 3 hours every 2 weeks. Which is why I cancelled that shit and started streaming online from mid 2016.

Generally they do the same over here.
Luckily when they lauched F1 on Sky, I was already running the HD subscription so I got the F1 HD channel- even though I dont pay for sports or movies. Now any new customer has to pay for all sports to get F1 - which I think is about £25 a month.

I unashamedly stream, from select web sources, FP1,2,3,Q, and Races. I refuse to pay a cable company the amount they want to charge JUST so I can get an F1 feed. If Liberty see sense and offer a paid digital subscription through F1.com, I will happily pay.

Yeah but that's the thing, they don't actually care about drop in viewing figures if their revenue is up. I think Liberty has a fine line to walk, there's clearly money being left on the table by the old fool (I hope he's unceremoniously kicked out ASAP) Who wouldn't pay to access a digital library of F1 races and content produced over the years? Then there's a ton of VR stuff they could be monetizing, the old fool only knew to squeeze venues for host fees because that's all he knew.

Hope you're right LRW and they keep it as it is now and don't go all pay to view. What I do now is watch the free ones on terrestrial and pay for the weekend to watch the sky only races. It's about £10 for the race weekend and £6 just for race day. I'm happy with that level of payment but won't pay for a package which includes things I don't want to watch . Prior to doing that I used someone's Go Sky code on my iPad, but that meant watching on the iPad, still better than nothing, and free.

LIberty must know that. Hopefully this new commercial guy ( Sean Batches?) they're putting in place will be a little more creative in how he sells F1.

I think they understand that job one is to make F1 more accessible to the fans, they understand that they have to come into a new digital marketplace as far as content and content accessibility.
They also understand that yo can't have a carnival or superbowl type atmosphere in a country where half the seats are empty on race weekend.
Lastly they understand that flattening the disparate performance curve between the haves and have nots is critical.
I don't think people care if there's only two or maybe three teams that can win, but what they do want to see is a sport where every team on the grid can be competitive enough to be in the top ten every race, get on the podium with some luck/talent/grit and offering young talent the opportunity to show their stuff.
We'll see what this change brings but so far they've showed that they understand the fundamental issues.
