Started following this guy, figured he's be done with his project before you were done with yours.

Hammer why are you selling the interior of your BMW?

Where did you see that?
I'm selling parts of a 7 series (740iL E32) I bought over for cheap. Needed the wiring/electronics/gearbox and brakes from it to complete mine....and it was way easier and cost effective to buy this car which was in solid running condition. So apart from these parts, I'm trying to offload the rest of whatever I can to recoup the cost of purchase in the first place.
By some miracle, even after all this mess (the first workshop left me with) I'm still within budget. I feel I'm sort of running a part time spare part business but it seems there's still a solid market for these old cars out there. Managed to sell the seats, steering box and aircond compressor to recoup about 1/4 my cost thus far. There's still almost the entire engine bay including the engine to go. It's sort of an enjoyable journey to be honest, except the pain of having to wait so long for my car to be done...and knowing there are definitely going to be gremlins to sort out after it starts running due to being stagnant for so long.

I see everything, it's as if I work for the NSA. Keep plugging away at it, it's fun thought, the chase is why we do it. I see people buying finished cars, and plunking down sometimes stupid money for them and I think to myself, they absolutely missed out on the best part of the process.

Feels strange posting in this thread....I guess all I can say about my car is that it's finally on the jack again since few days ago and the finishing touches are being applied. I hate to say it's been waiting in the sidelines for months to just get it on the jack for a 2 day job at most. But that's what circumstances had led to. On another note, I might be getting this car in a few days. A 1995, 3.0L V8. 1 owner the entire time, was his weekend car. Just test drove it today, feels good. Pushed it and the engine and gearbox is good, handles well. some wear and tear issues like arm bushings to take care off since steering isn't so great under heavy braking. And plan to rebuild the top half of the engine. The interior needs a little work but I felt it looks pretty good for a >20y old car. This is my favourite 7. I test drove another yesterday, a 4.0L and it was sluggish as hell. Crazy asking price too. This one is going for less than half of that. And I can afford to spend a decent amount to really spruce it up. No conversions and shit though, just a top engine overhaul and a few knick knacks needed to complete it. And have a spare gearbox on standby in case this one fails at any point. And I think Wß might take a liking to it....for an obvious reason. Can't believe I thought of when I saw this car!

Take the god awful M badges and those neon piss yellow turn signals off, and go plus1 on the wheels and that becomes a tidy little ride. What's the mileage? I am embarrassed to say that it's the first time I notice you have right hand drive cars there. Okay what's being on the Jack mean?

Funny you should mention that! I told him if we agree on the price, I want all the M stickers removed. And I also said the signals ruin the entire front end of this car! I like the wheels though, not sure I'd want to change that. The car I drove yesterday had 19" on and the ride was terrible. Mileage is about 260K kilos. On the jack means on the stands....as in it is now being worked on again. They need to transplant the gearbox and then the entire braking system from an E32 into mine and then we can start it.

Hahaha! Thanks for the clarification. The sweet spot for performance is 17, I think anything bigger on that car would look wrong. 18 you start being harsh on the tire, 19 you start being harsh on the rim.
It's all dependent on the car. But anything lower than a 40 series sidewall, you're going to have problems.
Yeah with that kind of mileage, you should do the control arm bushings if you can. All of them. Here we'd just buy new control arms. There, it sounds like it would be cheaper to pay someone to press out the old ones and press in new ones.

So guess what...just paid a booking fee for....an E39!! Around the same price, almost showroom condition on the interior, 70k less on the mileage, tastefully done on the exterior (full AC Schnitzer bodykit), 2.8L. Straight 6, 190 bhp. Tested it out, feels better maintained compared to my own car. The owner is this conservative, retired professional and he kept telling me "look out for the speedbumps!" everytime I approached one...and held on for dear life whenever I pushed it. And interestingly he knows about old BMWs. An example, 1 big give away is when people go "of course I use coolant (or antifreeze) for the radiator!" In reality these older models do much better with plain tap water. Like what I've done with my car for over a decade. And this guy said the same thing. Almost no work needed on it. So now I've gotten the two 5ers in BMW history which I love. Hoping to get everything done and drive it home before end of next week. Oh and I'll be paying a visit to the workshop to see the progress on my no.1 love. Another thing which attracted me to the E39 is the number... 1177. My car is 7733. And my mums car which I've been using for the past year is 5773. There's a small pattern there. Or most likely I'm just being silly.

This one looks pretty clean, and not a trace of neon yellow turn signals anywhere.

This one looks pretty clean, and not a trace of neon yellow turn signals anywhere. Also no overheating issues. The E38 had the gauge slightly past the center line and the guy was like "Its normal its normal". Lol so I figured I would need to budget for a top overhaul as worst case scenario as stated in the post above. I'm in impatient mode now...the car needs to be certified road legal as it's a sale happening and a mobile inspections unit can only come over on the 2nd of May. Seller is not willing to drive it to a branch since road tax and insurance has long expired. On the 3rd we plan to do the name change and I get the keys. It's a bit of a wait.
