Someone at Mercedes is doing some deep aerodynamics exploration with stuff like this... Apparently the lack of a fin may have a lot to do with them going for this as an alternative concept.

Never realised just how wide that floor is! That rear looks great!

A series of very interesting cars, lots of different solutions to the baseboard area, Force India's solution looks very good, Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren also have some nice designs.
Mercedes stuck more to their old design where as Force India, McLaren and Ferrari have gone down a different route. I suspect we'll see a huge amount of change at testing and likewise before Melbourne.

Never realised just how wide that floor is! I know it plays a big part but I think the cars would look so much better without it.

How many more punctures we gonna get with it? If i were a ream, i'd make it razor sharp - just to add some interest to a race

I suspect we'll see a huge amount of change at testing and likewise before Melbourne. This is a weird situation because there's additional downforce but there's also additional drag. Having more engine power allows your to better manage the aerodynamics. We'll see what happens soon enough, but when you start with a clean slate, you tend to bring many options to the table and some of those are dead end paths. That floor on the McLaren is completely bare, they probably have a ton of options they'll be testing.

These front wings. So intricate.

I know there's going to be a lot of massaging to these cars between now and Melbourne but simply going by the level of detail on what's being presented, so far the Merc seems like the most developed presentation, followed by Ferrari, Renault, Sauber/Force India and I'd have to place McLaren last on the list to date.

I have my doubts about that front wing, they're not really going to be racing with something like that are they?

I've gotta say I'm loving the new cars so far this year. The new shapes/styles look great, as do the wider tyres, and the colours... my goodness we have colour on the grid again (very important haha). McLaren going back orange... much better than their liveries in recent years. Reminiscent of Arrows and Spyker, which are teams which do not conjure images of success. Maybe, in time, McLaren can take orange to P1.

Ooh, they got a couple of sponsors, Johnnie walker back on there. It's a little on the tiny side that logo though. They've bought the rear wing space on the Force India. Castrol is seemingly not replacing Mobil as a full sponsor either, just a supplier because you could hide their logo behind a medium sized burrito. Zack Brown really must be pushing to get a title sponsor in there but unless there's podiums or at least a good fight for podiums with regularity I fear he's going to have a difficult job. The sport needs McLaren back and mended just like they need Ferrari and Red Bull challenging. We'll find out more this week for sure.

F1Fanatic has a couple of good side by side 2016/2017 car comparisons. Taking a look at the side pod openings, Mercedes seem to have come up with what they must feel is a very good cooling solution because they look to be easily 30% smaller.

Not to keen with the Mclaren livery, Can't really put my finger on why I don't like it. The Renault's yellow and black looks awesome but not so much the orange and black Mclaren, Its nowhere as good as the Orange Arrows of the early 2000s.
Have to say I'm really enjoying the new cars and designs so far, they're looking good.
