I've never rated Di Resta. Kubica is a gamble but if he can do the job, he can do the job. The driving skills aren't questioned, it's the capacity. Let's see.

Yeah, I don't think Di Resta has a sniff, I think he's just being used as a benchmark.
As I mentioned elsewhere, Kubica is a win/win situation for Williams IF he can physically take the wear and tear of the 2018 cars & calendar.
If he comes out and scores solid point, it's a brilliant move. If he comes out and does the same as Massa has, it's not great loss but the publicity will help share price. If he comes out and is beaten by Stroll, Williams will still look good for having given him one last crack.
Kubica is a Publicity goldmine for the team and their sponsors; even non-F1 press will feature articles on him if he got the nod.
I believe that if he is physically fine to drive, it would be insane to keep Massa over Kubica.

I start to think you made the good choice with Kubica since the beginning
I failed to realize the political side of the buisness for Williams. Williams cumulates his sponsoring experience since the last ten years to consolidate its economic aspect in order to meet its objectives of reaching ~250m budget(the top teams have between ~250/300m this season - for chassis alone that is) for 2021 to become a top team again. More likely they need twice, but an engine supplier plays his role economically too. Plus, like with Kubica if Lowe decides to give him the seat, they would likely get some more sponsorship money also.
Paddy Lowe will allow Williams to foresee a future at a higher technical and sporting level in order to further consolidate his financial aspect. Just Imagine if Kubica pushs the car to its limit every weeks, Williams is doubly winning as you said.

The saga continues...... Williams now "Strongly deny" the rumours that Sirotkin is the firm favorite to join the team next year. Full "gossip" mode goes like this: Williams liked Wehrlein but there wasn't a huge incentive package being offered by Mercedes, and Martini sponsors were firm on the needing an over 25 driver. Enter Rosberg as Kubica's manager, using his sway with the team, got them really excited about Kubica. A deal was penned and terms were agreed to prior to the last test. The contingency was ability to hold up for long distances and a few lose ends with the insurance, but aside from that an in principle agreement was made. Enter Sirotkin as a "token" comparison driver. He out performed Kubica in the tests and, following Kvyat's exit from the sport, a "Serrious" amount of Russian money was thrust towards Williams to sweeten the deal. Delays in an official announcement was due to the team wanting to a) find a way to end the in prinicple agreement with Kubica, and b) persuade Martini that the ability to use Sirotkin to leverage their brand in Eastern Europe outwieghs any issues with being under 25. So now it seems we wait. As above from the driver shuffle thread Aparently, the money offered was enough to get Sir Frank out of his chair and dancing!

William$Yeah, it was a bullshit money move from them, I hope they give Kubica at least one weekend where he gets to do practice, qualifying and a race because hopefully he'll show that he's more than capable and peak the interest of the likes of Mercedes because Hamilton & Kubica are very very respectful about eachothers talents and would in my opinion be a fantastic pairing.

Hell if I were Williams I would've done the same thing. Let's face it, Kubica isn't going to set the world on fire with his age and present condition (no matter even if he's on par with guys like Perez/Sainz/etc) Williams needs cash. They're a privateer and shit is expensive, survival is key.
Which is why I think McLaren are the biggest morons on the grid, keeping an overpriced over-the-hill Mouth when their car can't even finish races. And I don't believe they are swimming in money either, or else why so desperate for title sponsors? There's a balance between going for big names and keeping your cheque book balanced. Teams swimming in it like Mercedes, Ferrari, Redbull are the only ones who can afford to take risks like Kubica who doesn't really bring any money with him, just name and (still doubtful) talent.
I think what Williams did makes 100% business sense.

Honda was footing the bill for Alonso. William$ well. Let's see where the influx of cash and paddy's influence puts them this year. I expect a lot of mid field teams gunning for that fourth place position. McLaren included.
