He looked the real deal today. What he did with the Toro Rosso was impressive. Ricciardo was pushing today, what had to be an inspired attempt, so for Sainz to put it less than two tenths off the Red Bull is a spectacular result for his F1 debut.

This kid is a real calm deep thinker, reminds me of Damon hill for some reason - good by stealth We won't notice him till he's suddenly won a race

I can't find actual finishing times but was trying to figure out how much the pit stop bobble hurt him. I am excited for the new crop of talent.

I could warm up to Nasr and Sainz but I just don't like Verstappen so much. He has that face. That "Everyone's my bitch" face. Maybe its just me.

I like this guy more than I should. I say that because I've had my hopes up many times before with drivers that clearly had talent but the F1 machine chews them up and spits them out. I know Bottas is a talented kid but he's always coming up short. Hulkenberg is another talent but he's now spent too many years floundering in mid grid teams. Flashes of brilliance for them both but I fear they are in the process of being chewed up and spit out as well.
So along comes Sainz, he shows up in an era where Alonso is in his waning phase, a third title and he's out. A lack of real progress by McLaren creating a championship capable car this season or next and he's out as well. So the Spanish can fully get behind him. Not just because he's a Madrid native son, but because he's now put in two stellar performances and he's looking more and more like a real talent.
Verstappen's drive was excellent this weekend, but no where am I seeing a lot of commentary on Sainz. IMO his drive was even more impressive. Getting up the grid, overtaking real drivers in competitive cars and managing it well, moving up seven spots from his unfortunate qualifying to wind up 8th, just behind the teammate in the demanding environment that was Malaysia. Like I said, I won't get too excited, but I haven't enjoyed a kid's start in the sport since Lewis. We genuinely have got a very talented crop of fresh faces, but Sainz has captured my attention more than the rest.

Some amazing talent on the grid. Nasr, Verstappen and Sainz the cream of the crop id say. Difficult to compare Sainz and Verstappen just yet. They seem to excel at different areas. Also there's been some reliability issues. But a great pairing and well done to Torro Rosso for being brave enough to run two youngsters. Well worth the gamble!!
