Monaco is back, impossible beauty standards, unforgiving barriers and nothing but glory for the winner and the agony of defeat to everyone behind them. This year is sure to give us more of the trains we're accustomed to given the wider rubber and the increased difficulty in overtaking. So qualifying will be king. Who will get it this year? Ferrari showing up with their shorter wheelbase, their master number one driver at qualifying, anything less than a win here will be seen as the beginning of the end for the title hopes given that the next couple of races are likely to be dominated by Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes power.
I predict Alonso to finish outside the points!

That first picture tho For Pole times, here's some info. The track was changed in 2015, an overall increase of 300m from the previous layout (2003-2014). The fastest time on the old layout was a 1:13.556 in 2011 from Sebastian Vettel. This is one of those tracks where despite the changes to the cars and tyres since 2015, there probably won't be a huge change to the times from 2016, the circuit isn't one where you can benefit from increased power and the increase in corner grip will only get you so much given the number of slow corners. But then, I've been wrong many times before 2016 Monaco Grand PrixFP1 - L. Hamilton Mercedes 01:15.537 FP2 - D. Ricciardo Red Bull 01:14.607 FP3 - S. Vettel Ferrari 01:14.650 Q1 - L. Hamilton Mercedes 01:14.826 Q2 - N. Rosberg Mercedes 01:14.043 Q3 - D. Ricciardo Red Bull 01:13.622 2015 Monaco Grand PrixFP1 - L. Hamilton Mercedes 01:18.750 FP2 - L. Hamilton Mercedes 01:17.192 FP3 - S. Vettel Ferrari 01:16.143 Q1 - N. Rosberg Mercedes 01:16.528 Q2 - N. Rosberg Mercedes 01:15.471 Q3 - L. Hamilton Mercedes 01:15.098

The pole times picks here are going to be insane. Just being within 1% to get a point is going to be a challenge. Lots of mechanical grip, the additional downforce won't account for a lot, basically some shorter braking distances at the exit of the tunnel and maybe a little to gain from turn 3 but I don't expect there to be gobs of time chopped.
But what do I know, I've yet to score more than one point from the pole guesses.

But what do I know, I've yet to score more than one point from the pole guesses. Despite just 1 point, your total Time Difference is 4.069s compared to racechick (4 points) 4.092s and ichabod (3 points) 3.735s. natny (3 points) is at 2.540s for the 3 races he entered, but the missed entry for round 1 means actual time with penalty is 510.861s As for Monaco, I really can't see them shaving anything more than 1s off last year's pole. To be within 1% you'll need to be no more than roughly 0.6s off the right time.

Merc has a clear disadvantage here, with their larger car. But maybe they could make it up with mechanical grip, who knows. If it's dry though, strategy would be straightforward, its all about reacting to any SCs or VSCs during the pit windows.

Pole position and then hope your team doesn't screw up your pitstop is all.

Vettel had a good start last week with that new thing on his steering wheel. I reckon ham gets pole, vettel gets a better start, ham tries to defend and they take each other off and Ham get penalized for it. Mystic Max

Isn't Max two for two putting it into the wall here?

Lol guy on pole just needs to make sure he gets the first clutch going right with the car pointing right, and the 1st corner is his. Lewis had a bad 2nd phase in Spain, the initial launch was fine.

With the tyre pressures being 17 front and 16.5 rear we might see Ferrari dominate this weekend, if they don't then all of the rumours about Mercedes wanting higher tyre pressures is bullshit. The Merc is looking even more insane... Two new additions that we can spot, I always said I loved the 07/08 cars with all their crazy aero parts and I am loving it again! On a side note, I'd love to see the difference between normal tipped daggers and the titanium tipped daggers on the side of the car that Mercedes are running, I assume it's for strength but not sure. A few minor changes to the front wing from McLaren, checkout the detail! pbs.twimg.com/media/DAhvzYhXoAErM12.jpgThe Hass Front Wing & New Livery:

This is a high downforce circuit, so everyone will likely show up with extra bits and serious wingage! I haven't even looked at the weather yet, yikes. Wonder if there will be showers?

Lets hope it's dry so Verstappen is able to finish the race.

If Vandorme gets beaten in qualifying yet again this weekend in then that's just embarrassing... Button has been out of the car and has jumped in for a single race.
Likewise with Wehrlein and Ericcison, I really do think Wehrlein is a top driver.
The Toro Rosso looks pretty damn fast. The Force India looks like it'll be faster 5th best time.
Looking decent for the Mercedes, they set their laps pretty early and still have the fastest time.

I agree on Wehrlein, he's not not the most popular guy though. Not sure why that is. There's rumors about him being a difficult guy to work with but for some reasons people excuse some and not others shortcomings, that's just life. Behind the wheel of a car, he's clearly driven the cars under him to positions they didn't belong and it doesn't seem like one off inspired drives.
Still Mercedes didn't give him the nod. Knowing what we know now about the tightness of the competition they find themselves in with Ferrari, maybe that was the right decision?
Qualifying tomorrow is going to be insane though!

Can anyone explain to me how an F1 team can completely screw up their car when it was doing perfectly fine in FP1....and then they took some "different direction" to make it an utter mess?
I thought logic would dictate that you just don't fix anything that isn't broken instead of fucking around for no reason.

Keep your shirt on lady, going in the wrong direction sometimes give you a better sense of where you should have gone. There's an entire extra day to crunch through the data.

*while ripping bra out*
Yeah but they lost an entire session to fine tune the car to be even better. Now they'd have to go back to the drawing board in FP3 to ensure they get good qual laps in, and then dictate pace from the front without much race fuel data.
