What's been interesting Japan is watching the surgical precision in which the gap stayed at 2.5 seconds for half the race. I think Red Bull suffers from a dirty air issue just as much as Mercedes do. I don't think you can have a car that's aero efficient and NOT suffer. Clearly Verstappen didn't make an attempt to challenge, and Lewis was nursing that PU and nursing the tires for all he could.
The story for Austin may be how many grid penalties for Hamilton? I did not like that uncertainty in his voice at the end with a PU vibration. Mercedes is now saying it's not PU related, but I wouldn't be so sure with just one post race comment from them.

Anyone think Mercedes and Ferrari would now be 100% focused on 2018 development already? Or else Redbull might get the jump on them. Lewis can just target podiums in the remaining races and cruise it. And both teams know this. As far as development, they're done yeah, 41 points and four races to do it in.

Why couldn't they just put a new spark plug on Vettel's car? Too fiddly?

Why couldn't they just put a new spark plug on Vettel's car? Too fiddly? Yeah, it's buried so far inside the engine housing and other components that it would have been a 30min job, so no point unless his plan was to just go out and hit Hamilton

And so we'll head to the good ol USofA, with Hamilton needing 16 points more than Seb to clinch the title. A win for Lewis and 6th or worse for Seb means it's game over. Personally, I think it'll be done and dusted in Brazil. Current long range forecasts have 22°c average for the USGP weekend, with a 60% chance of rain at this point. The Mexican GP the following weekend has an average temp of 17°c and 20% chance of rain. Brazil looks hot at 29°c, but an almost 95% chance of heavy rain. Given the Ferrari hasn't been great on the wet stuff this season, it's looking a forgone conclusion. Who would have thought, heading into the Summer break, that the race would be anything other than a nail bitter to the end! Oh and racechick , Seb finally got done for something; missing the anthem! That's 2 reprimands (1 driving, 1 non-driving) which means 1 more this year and it's a 10 place grid drop!

Rough translation of the goings on this weekend, Ferrari having to push hard to keep up with the Merc PU are gambling and it's not worked out well for them. Interestingly enough, Mercedes replaced the following on Lewis' car under the park ferme rules.
Technical Delegate’s Report The following parts and parameters have been replaced / changed during the Parc Fermé Car 44: Rear wing assembly Cylinder #6 spark plug LHS ignition coil pack

Edit :
I didnt even know the pre chamber helps to make a better mixture between air and fuel in order to improve combustion after the fuel injection. My question is how the pre chamber can stress the spark plug to the point of damage it ?

8 - Il dubbio Ferrari: rischiare mettendo CV con la EVO 4 (+ nuovo raffreddamento) o portare altra EVO 3 perdendo CV da minor olio? Ferrari's dilemma: risk more by gaining HP by adopting EVO 4 (plus new cooling system) or bring another EVO 3 PU losing some HP due to lower oil consumption?9 - Per vincere il mondiale, Ferrari non poteva aprire ulteriormente il gap di 20-25 CV tra EVO 4 Mercedes e sua EVO 3. Ci hanno provato #FUnoAT In order to try to win WDC Ferrari couldn't afford to increase HP gap between his EVO3 and Mercedes' EVO4 (quantified in 20-25HP). They made a bet. (he means that there's a gap of 20-25 hp between FER EVO3 that uses 1,2 lt/100 km and MER's EVO4, if they adopted another EVO3 that uses less oil and so has less HP they would have lost anyway, so they made a bet)10 - E Ferrari ha fatto bene a rischiare. Con 30 CV in meno le gare le termini ma non le vinci. E contava solo vincere dopo Singapore #FUnoAT Ferrari did the right choice to take a risk. With 30 HP less (than MER) you can finish races, but you can't win them. After Singapore winning was the only thing to do.Might be the translation, but twice that references an EVO3 spec using less oil where that would not be the case. EVO3 (and any other older engines) can still run the 1.2 per 100km, it's only NEW engines introduced after Monza that are restricted.

I think it's a bit confusing the but net is that Ferrari introduced this new 4th generation engine while Mercedes kept their 3rd generation PU introduced before Monza.
I think Mercedes' saying that they ran Monza with the reduced .9 liters per 100km is so that they could figure out if they could run the unrevise PU if they take a 5th unit.
From what I gather, Mercedes have two usable PUs one with Two races on it and the other with 3 races on it. Both the 1.2 liter spec. Technically they were designed to run five races so they should be able to do that. Especially given the fact that they've been able to turn the PUs down for Singapore due to Lewi's performance there. They purposely didn't push in Malaysia, deciding to settle for 2nd while saving the engine there and now in Japan Lewis didn't do an ounce more pushing than he had to. The way he maintained that gap at about 2.5 seconds for the entire second stint in the race.
One way or another, it looks like Ferrari are in trouble because the new spec isn't holding up with the reduced oil, and the old spec according to this would be down 25 or so HP.
I wouldn't take anything on the internet as gospel, but this guy seems like he's well connected and knows what he's talking about.
