Further to my comparing Max & Daniel to Senna & Prost, and endulging in my love of stats..
Over the 2 years they were in the same car: Poles - Senna 26 : Prost 4 Wins - Senna 14 : Prost 11 WDC - Senna 1 : Prost 1
But delve deeper and you see Average finishing position - Senna 2.61 : Prost 1.81 Average Points - Senna 4.81 : Prost 5.81 Total Points - Senna 154 : Prost 186 In fact, Prost beat Senna in points both seasons, but lost the '88 championship due to the "best 11 results" rule. But ask anyone who the "better" driver is and most would pick the fast guy from Brazil.
I see similar trends with Verstappen/Ricciardo. 2016/17 (taken from Race 5 where Max joined RBR to Mexico '17) Wins - Ricciardo 2 : Verstappen 3 Points - Ricciardo 412 : Verstappen 339 Podiums - Ricciardo 17 : Verstappen 11 Average Qualifying Position - Ricciardo 5.8 : Verstappen 5.48 Average Finishing Position (completed race) - Ricciardo 3.7 : Verstappen 4.19 Average Points (races entered) - Ricciardo 11.77 : Verstappen 9.68
So take from that what you will, but personally I think that over the 35 races together so far it's been Max for the headlines and Daniel for the solid results.

That’s interesting dogued. But I’d chose Senna in a heartbeat over Prost. I guess it’s whatever turns you on. The speed, excitement and ability to execute audacious moves. I see it in Senna, Hamilton and Verstappen. They have something special, and it’s that which that gives goosebumps. Not to take away from Ricciardo, because I think he’s an excellent driver, and I really like him . It’s that extra ingredient in the likes of Senna, Max and Lewis that I can’t resist. So natny, you’d actually chose same pairing as me , You’d have Ham and RIc. That’s for the now. But Ocon is a great choice for a little further down the line. You’re now getting into reasons why Ricciardo isn’t as popular as Ham. Ooo, it’s beacauss Ham lives on the Internet, ooo it’s because he’s black. Doesn’t matter what the reason is, doesn’t matter who the fans are. Fact is Lewis has most. I know what you mean about Ricciardo, he has universal appeal, he’s funny and a nice guy with a quick wit. He’s made some hilarious comments in press conferences and interviews, Lewis can’t do that , I accept that. They’re very different personalities. Ricciardo appeals to all. Lewis ( like Max and Senna) arouses stronger emotions at both ends of the spectrum, people love them or hate them. But believe me, they’re the ones who’ll be remembered. Lewis- achieved more than any other British driver. ( and top line British drivers there have been aplenty) Lewis - four Time world champion Lewis - first black champion Lewis - champion in two different teams Lewis - won a race in every season he’s competed. Lewis- most pole positions in F1 history. There’s more. Lewis will be remembered!

Lewis will be remembered! he might pop up in the odd pub quiz every now and again and people will be racking their brain for his name 'what's his name harrington', 'the boring guy'. I also think you're giving Hamilton too much credit putting his risk taking and edgy driving style up there with senna and even max (who I admit had this but lacks hugely elsewhere). Hamilton is Mr tyre preserver. Mr get to the front early or has no chance of winning. look at last race. you really think senna or max would have limped along to a 9th or 10th??

If you’re referring to the last race he had a damaged car. His floor was damaged and half his diffuser gone, care of Mr. Vettel. So limping along was his only option.
The young, new to F1, Lewis Hamilton was every bit as risk taking as Max and Senna, he beat a double world champion in his rookie year. Yes he preserves tyres, yes he drives a measured race, that’s because he is now experienced and knows how to balance the agression with championship winning drives. But when the raw talent is called for he delivers. That’s why he has the most poles in F1 history.

I just wanted to put this somewhere, and here looks good.
Why did Vettel and Ferrari's chances fall away this year?

If anyone wants the headache, there's a lot of 30 and 40 thousand dollar Ferrari out there now. None of which will ever go down in value more than they currently are, but all will cost you five to eight times as much in annual maintenance than your run of the mill lease return German or Japanese high end performance car you can buy for the same cost.
