And we're off!!!!
. . .
And first red flag goes to: Alonso in the McLaren! At least it wasn't an engine! Just a wheel came off for some reason. The more things change........
Renault looks nice on the track, albeit the fact the track has been redone making it darker certainly helps. Sauber looks vintage on track. That paint job makes me think of past days in F1. Looks good. RedBull looked so much better in the camo job :/ But still good on track.

Redbull played themselves with a cool cameo design, and then reverting back to the copy+paste 2017 livery.

Reading blurbs about Mercedes showing up this year with a completely new engine, based on the previous platform of course but specifically designed to gain in reliability and power. Given their starting point and having been the most reliable PU last year, I think there will be some serious catch up necessary from Renault and Honda, and Ferrari although they showed good power, their reliability clearly lacked last year.

Some things I found interesting today: - Mercedes have apparently reached "over 1000hp" on the PU according to other teams which is impressive, Mercedes however say that the engine is 950hp+. They won't admit or deny it. - Honda have been working on reliability over the winter and think they have solved the majority of issues, bare in mind in 2017 it was essentially a brand new Engine. They're going to continue working on the reliability before they work on raw speed and this is something McLaren were unwilling to accept. - Toro Rosso and also Hartly both believe the Honda 2018 engine is putting out more power than the 2017 Renault engine which might be really quite funny if Toro Rosso are faster than McLaren. - McLaren & also Alonso both believe the Renault is better than the Honda engine and Alonso believes he can fight for podiums and wins in 2018. - Renault believe they will be faster than McLaren this year and also believe their reliability will be much better although they aren't focusing on raw speed in 2018, the engine will be about the same speed as 2017 but much more reliable. - Most teams believe Ferrari is the car to beat, not Mercedes especially with Ferrari's ducting work. Likewise they also believe that Red Bull has some clever ducting work with something smart going on with the wings sticking out over the sidepods.

Day 1 - Daniel Ricciardo tops the time sheets Day 2 - Sebastian Vettel tops the time sheets Day 3 - Fernando Alonso tops the time sheets.
You can't argue with the official record, McLaren are BACK! *disclaimer: Only 5 drivers left the pits on day 3, with only Alonso setting a time.
