Guys I'm taking ideas for Hammer's new alias on here for next season when ricciardo destroys him this season. Ricciardo gonna give max a little head start with his 3 place grid drop for being a bad ass and speeding through a red but its a marathon not a sprint. Anyway, any ideas I'm all ears. I might start a new thread called 'offensive name ideas for hammer' if that makes things easier. Will have to work out how to start a thread first.

Couldn't catch qualifying today.....but I think this is going to be a good season. Pity about the Halos, they still look crap to me.
Bottas needs to calm down a bit, I think this is the Lewis factor. If I were Bottas I'd take solace that I am no slower than Nico and all I need to do is keep close to Lewis and just do my best. These major mistakes come when you're thinking more about the other car than yourself.

Gaadammit! I went for a drying qualifying with all the doom and gloom talk. I figured it would be too dry when I watched FP3 last night. We've got ourselves a racing season at least on Saturdays. It's all about race pace tomorrow, let's see where things stack up.

Just saw the post qualifying...
"I was waiting to put a good lap in to wipe the smile off your face. " -L Hamilton. I think Vettel should be worried more about beating his teammate than Mercedes' party mode.

This side by side video comparison from ESPN shows where the Merc made time on the Ferrari. It's a romp during braking, corner entry and corner exit, the Ferrari still makes time in the low drag sections and clearly has the top speed.

What a sour puss. He can make jokes and tease others whenever he wants, but when he gets it back "what goes around comes around boohoohooooo!" He's right though, like after what he did in Baku last year, how his season completely unraveled so he should know best about how karma works. And let's not even mention the other guy in red, as usual not even being present since he can't keep up with the conversation.

Hamilton seems like a different person this season. relaxed, funnier. I hope this will be the return of the old ham. Not this boring Hamilton we've seen the last few seasons who sits under totos thumb. That goes for personality and driving. We shall see. good start though. made vettel look like a whinging bitch in that last presser. What a sour puss. He can make jokes and tease others whenever he wants, but when he gets it back "what goes around comes around boohoohooooo!" He's right though, like after what he did in Baku last year, how his season completely unraveled so he should know best about how karma works. Perfect timing for Ferrari junior to retire so Senior can win the race.

What did we learn:
*VSC is a crock of shit. Want to fix it? Make teams push the pit limiter while under VSC conditions.
*Mercedes have a beast of a car. After his little error, Lewis was easily 0.5-0.8s a lap faster than Vettel in clear air.
*Melbourne is NOT an overtaking track. If Liberty honestly want the simplest solution to "fixing" the show, either make the cars skinnier or the tracks wider.
*Ferrari Haas have built a decent car and seem to have done well overcoming the brake issues that have hurt the last 2 seasons. Feel bad for them today.
*McLaren can brag about the finish, but they are NOT on RBR level by any means. Max was able to come and go at will behind Alonso, and it was just the nature of the track that stopped him claiming 5th.
*Did I mention that the VSC is a crock of shit?

1. Track is always stupidly hard to overtake on. 2. Car regulations are just going to cause more overtaking issues like this, there were countless cars who were faster and couldn't overtake because of the dirty air. Hamilton on Vettel, Ricciardo on Raikkonen, Verstappen on Alonso, Bottas on Hulkenburg, Perez on Sainz. All of them were the faster car just unable to overtake. 3. McLaren still comfortably slower than Renault, just they got lucky with the VSC for Alonso. Alonso made up like 3 places and so did Vettel. 4. Embarrasing for Haas.

Mercedes says it was a 'software glitch' that informed the VSC window is 12 seconds or something when it was 15 seconds in Albert park.
Sounds like some sort of lame cover up for a rookie error in the strategy department. This is simple numbers to work out during practice using GPS, like pit lap speed, outlap, inlap speed. What a lame way to lose a race.
If I were ferrari I would be worried though. This is typically a Ferrari track and they were absolutely thrashed in terms of pace both on Saturday and race pace. They should be very afraid heading to Bahrain.

I was actually a decent race. I may watch it again because I've driven about 700 miles in the last couple of days and my brain was a little fried. Agree with the points already made. The track may be the most difficult track to overtake on, no matter how many DRS zones they add to it.
Sort of glad for the outcome as it appears that Mercedes this year has a beast of a car, the way Hamilton was able to just put time on the Ferrari at the beginning and then take time seemingly at will. Most importantly, there was no tire degradation, not a single complaint about tire wear and being unable to switch them on, so I fear this year they'll have both titles sewn up by the US GP.
Was really rooting for Ricciardo, he kept pushing and had the good on Verstappen who pretty much had zero control of that car comparatively. Shame for Haas, and have to feel for their wheelmen.
The midfield is closer and we'll see good racing, but in a track where overtaking is possible. I think there are more overtakes in Monaco than in Australia.
One last observation, those Ferrari engines smoking, I think we'll hear more of it as the season progresses.
Kimi has to feel gutted today given the way he drove, I feel worse for him than I do about Mercedes and Hamilton.
Oh one last thing, Bottas was just nowhere yesterday, I know the overtake is hard but man I just don't buy that other drivers would get stuck back there the way he did. He needs to finish a convincing second this year, of I fear he'll have to leg to stand on to keep the seat. Not with the amount of talent waiting in the wings, and not with THAT car.

I thought it was a good race especially for the Melbourne layout.
The surprise for me was Haas and there pace, most experts did say they are the top of the midfield pack and that proved to be the case, too bad about their pit stop issue, they lost some good points, that will be painful for those guys.
Mercedes, well thats unlucky for them with the VSC and was the deciding factor of the race, can bet that the VSC or even regular SC will decide the outcome of other GPs thought out the season with the delta time that drivers have to follow, Like James Allen said on the Aussie coverage, pitting under VSC is pretty much a pit stop at half price.
As for tyres, I feel there is a case to bring the Hypersoft to Melbourne and drop the soft next time. The yellow Soft tyre seems too durable for Melbourne IMO.
With Daniel, happy for him to walk away with 4th, good result for the Aussie and a shining light in what has been one of the darkest days of Australian sport.

I thought it was as boring as watching paint dry! Overtaking impossible , no racing. Not just saying that because if the VSC fiasco. Have to congratulate Ferrari for being in the position to take advantage of that safety car. Ferrari did nothing wrong. But the VSC is wrong. It’s meant to neutralise the race not hand out advantages. Bottas, Vettel and Alonso all gained advantage under it. So I think that rule needs tweaking. On other stuff. I think Daniel RIc did an amazing race after a poor quali and his bad luck with the grid drop. Possibly driver of the day? Verstappen overcooked it. Kimi outdrove Vettel all weekend Vettel got lucky. Lewis was completely in control, it was his race. Lost because of VSC and strategy miscalculations. Minor error pushing near the end on worn tyres and overheating engine. Bottas needs to up his game. I feel for him. But he’s in a Merc. This weekend was very poor. People say the Merc has a big advantage. Well so far not when Bottas is driving it. Much of advantage comes from Lewis. Outside the top three teams.... Hass ! delighted for them....with their pace. Soooo disappointed for them with those wheel nuts. I really felt for those poor mechanics. And I have to mention Alonso. He’s a conniving weasel much of the time, but he deserves to have a decent car . He’s up there with Ham, Vet, Ric , Vers on ability ( okay not quite up there with Ham ) I hope this performance from McLaren means he can fight for podiums sometimes this year.
