Not a another section (they already had 2), rather the start/finish straight DRS zone has been extended by 100m so instead of starting 270m after the last corner it now starts just 170m after the last corner.

Thanks for the clarification, I'd gotten a snippet of it elsewhere. They're trying anything they can try with the DRS tweaking based on what they learned last year with the increased difficulty with the more aero dependency and even more difficulty following with the new cars.

We don't get to see F2 races televised here. What a pity.

oh my, that was almost TOO perfect!!! Alonso JUST scrapes into Q2 by virtue of posting the same time as Grosjean first... meanwhile BOTH Torro Rosso cars above the McLarens

- Verstappen through but out of Q2 and Q3 - Ferrari looking comfortably faster than Mercedes - Hass (Magnussen) nearly as fast as Red Bull - Toro Rosso Honda faster than McLaren Renault - Alonso sneaks through with the exact same time as Grosjean - Williams arguably the slowest car, Leclerc was faster than Sirotkin - Sirotkin again comfortably faster than Stroll (Stroll beat Sirotkin in quallifying last week but he was faster) - Gasly again comfortably faster than Hartley - Magnussen again comfortably faster than Grosjean It's clear that the Mercedes engine is fast but clearly not the reason Mercedes are so strong, look how slow Williams are. Ferrari are consistantly topping the speed traps, just like Australia they seem to be fastest down the straights but slower in the corners. Do Mercedes need to change their setup Hamilton will go for Soft tyres in Q2, if he gets through this could set him up for the win against Ferrari because he's already compromised and on a different plan than the Ferrari's, Ricciardo & Bottas.

So Q2...
Hamilton qualifies on SOFT tyres.... great lap to finish P2. Gasly puts Torro Rosso into Q3! Hartley finishes P11 by 0.09s BOTH TORRO ROSSO BEAT McLAREN!

I think it’s particularly the Mercs not working well in the softer compound, so maybe Bottas will switch for the last quali?? Bottas needs to come second and Lewis needs to be on pole.

Q2...
- Hamilton sets a smashing lap on the soft tyre, looks good for him tomorrow. If he can get pole position he'll be in a good position. - Toro Rosso Honda respond to Australia and beat BOTH McLarens comfortably, Hartley was up before the last corner and could have got both cars into the top 10 if he didn't mess up. Good Job Gasly! - Renault looking strong, seems they've improved a little - Hass looking equally as strong, they have an impressive car. Maybe time to replace Grosjean?

Grosjean must surely have had issues there??

Well done... 1-2 Ferrari. I dislike them, but it IS good for the sport. Great to see the top 3 teams so even here. (Highlights just how amazing Lewis's lap in Australia was) P5 start for Gasly! I really have high hopes for Honda now they are with a more "open" team. P9 start for Lewis. He will REALLY need to be P5 at least by lap 3, and MUST make it cleanly through that first lap.
McLaren... Oh dear. Maybe don't make calls on how great you are until you have honest results to back the claims up. Williams... hmmm Can't blame the poor lineup (Torro Rosso is making it work), can't blame the engine (although Force India are almost as bad), so it's time to replace the entire aero team.

The Ferrari looked strong today. They've been on it all weekend. The only thing saving Mercedes is their race pace and the cooling temps come Sunday night's race. It's going to be a interesting race with both Hamilton and Verstappen way out of position. Bottas loves this circuit, he's never been out qualified by a teammate here or so I've heard but just not good enough to split the Ferrari.
The midfield is tight and fun this year, McLaren not quite ready to fight with the leaders just yet as Alonso was professing after Australia. Gasley gets driver of the day, good on him!
