I can't believe you did that with a cat!! My uncle's neighbour in Thailand had his dog "disappear" when he went on holiday but everyone down his road knows it was stolen and put on a spit roast...

There was a story some time ago similar to that , though not as dramatic, at my local zoo. A young child fell over the edge ( was sitting on the wall) and into the pit where the gorillas lived. The child was hurt and broke its arm. Onlookers were terrified when the big silver back gorilla strolled over to the child. But he didn't touch or hurt the child, he stood guard over it. He wouldn't let any of the other gorillas or zoo staff get near the child. I think in the end they had to dart him to get the child out.

Sometimes the paternal instincts kick in, but I bet most of the time when they do, the animal has just had its meal and the hunger pangs aren't alive. But what I respect is the fact that they don't differentiate even though its a different species we're talking about. In the human society, we have so much bias, racism and what not....while in the animal kingdom a mother of a particular species has adopted young ones completely different and cared for them in its own way. What pisses me off is also when people talk about pets which ended up feeding on their own master/mistress (say the owner died at home), well no shit sherlock. It's called survival. People forget they might do worse if stuck on a desert island with no source of food anywhere and their best friend is stuck along with them....it won't take more than 2-3 days before cannibalism is considered. People go crazy if they don't eat for a day, imagine 2 days or more? I digress a bit, but its something of a pet peeve when I hear people putting down animals because of them only 'dependent' on you for survival. Well, what the f**k else do you think any other living thing on this planet is so different? Shit I really went off course here. It's a bit of wine talking I think. But maybe also because I'm a bit of an animal lover. If I see a stranger and a stray dog on the road, I immediately feel more compassion for the dog.

2 - 3 days before canabalism is considered. Have you seen the movie Alive? If that was me I don't think they would of had to thaw the bodies.

What really pees me off.....is when some a***hole says that someone has behaved 'no better than an animal'........ We need to find an animal that hunts, kills purely for sport, and derives pleasure from the suffering of other animals. Lets say thats too hard a task, we could try and find an animal that does all the above to its own species and there is only one candidate. Ofcourse this candidate is a subset within its own species and gives the rest a bad name, but it is a bit rich when any of them say things like 'one of us has behaved no better than an animal' Would be more logical to say 'one of us has behaved no better than one of our most influential and established member groups'

A fox, if a fox gets in a chicken pen it'll kill all the chickens and only take 1 home to eat...

The fox is only there in the first place for one reason. Doing what it does whilst there could be greed, instinct, strategic, logic
but it didnt turn up without a mcchicken takeaway in mind
even the lion that toys with its prey is merely working up an appetite

The earliest recollection I have an an "animal" story is seeing my grandfather slit a pig's throat early in the morning and seeing cooked in a pit throughout the day.

One thing I know I'm very hypercritical about is eating meat. I don't eat a lot of it except chicken and fish. But if I had to kill the animal to eat it, I couldn't do it. I'd be a veggie in a flash.

So, what if your life depended on killing a fish to survive?

That's funny you say that I hadn't thought about it. I did however wonder if a giraffe's iced coffee would be warm by the time it reached the bottom of its throat.

I saw the cutest little white tail bunny in the yard yesterday, adorable. On a related note, dogs love to ear bunny droppings.
