Well because it was up up up up then down down down down , the gears weren't too much bother. Easiest legs all the way up, then hardest legs all the way down. On the very steep bit it kept jumping out of the easiest gear, I had to hold that lever across. Needs adjusting I think. It got sorted temporarily by pushing something near the wheel in a bit. I don't think I'd want a radio, all the better to be shouted and moaned at!!!! Also another thing to have to work!

I don't think I'd want a radio, all the better to be shouted and moaned at!!!! Also another thing to have to work! Ahh a minor misalignment, my brothers bike has this problem after he dropped it. He has no access to 4 gears, I fixed it to get 3 back but the last I can't get because he's bent some metal slightly and I can't find anything to bends it back. Radios aren't needed in small groups as such but when you have 10+ their very handy because everyone rides at different speeds, struggles with different bits. Mainly for warnings but then again where I cycled it was a mix of roads, beach wall, off-road and through woods. If it's rained radios can save people from hurting themselves. There was one where it had rained and it was difficult to cycle on the wet, stony "road" I was in front came to a hill so I went down it fairly slow but at the bottom was thick mud that I only just got though with a lot of hard peddling, quickly said on the radio and they all went round it because I'm certain either someone would fall off, get stuck of go over their handlebars. You mean your gear lever? No, I mean my brake lever. Ahh yeah my bad!

Damage report from the cycle ride. Knees sore when going downstairs but have got better as the days gone on.( walked a lot today) Rest of legs, fine Hands and wrists, fine 'Bits' ok but some bruisey feeling in the general pelvic area.
I'd said I thought the cycle ride was about 16k to the top. Then same Back down.
Height wise, my chalet is at 1540 metres La Rosiere, the sort of half way point is at 1850 metres And the summit of the Col is 2188 metres So altogether, a gain of nearly 650 metres. I don't know if that's good but it doesn't sound much does it, 650m? A metre isn't much.
RyRy, your cycling sounds more like mountain biking. It's a wierd thing but even though I'm in the mountains, it's not mountain biking. There's a lot of mountain biking around here but different sorts of bikes. My bike has thin wheels and no tread and it stays on the road,

You probably worked some muscles that rarely get used so thats good, well done either way Yeah, I used to cycle a mix of everything. pretty fun. I like both types of cycling but I prefer mixed/mountain biking because there's an element of danger that you don't really get otherwise other than speed.

The sore knees is a little out of the norm. Yo may be need to fiddle with the pedals. One of the nice things about using a clip on shoe instead of a cage like it sounded that you are using... the clip on once adjusted will force your feet to the right angle etc. Knee pain can often come from too much toe in or toe out that then forces your knees into a position that causes discomfort.
Not too much magic in setting up your feet though. As long as the ball of your foot is over the spindle of the dedal, that's all there is to it. You then pedal around and place your feet where they feel natural and comfortable. The cages force your foot into one position that just may not be right for you.

I think that might be it WB. I think my feet were perhaps back too far, because of the cage, and not getting them in. I'm a big scared of clip ins, because if I fall off I'll forget to unclip. But I will fiddle around and find the best solution.
