Yesterday and this morning I carried loads of logs from the basement of the chalet ( street level at front ) to the balcony two floors up. Two flights of stairs, but twisty stairs, so about 4 flights really. I carried them up in an old baby's Moses basket. I put one handle over my shoulder like a handbag and put my arm over the basket, and the basket rested on my hip. Each trip I had between 6 and 10 logs depending on the size. It was well hard and now I have a bruise on my hip. But I Think I got fit. This was done in preparation for a delivery of two steps of logs for next winter. Steps are the way they measure the amount of logs you want. When the logs came I helped unload and stack them, but that was MUCH easier and quicker than carrying the other logs upstairs. First Picture are the logs I carried up to the balcony. Second one is where they came from in the garage. third one is the new delivery of logs stacked in the garage. I like doing this stuff better than going to the gym.

RC needs to work out more often! She has started a two week fitness and weight loosing programme.
Target. 6/7 pounds weight loss and flat stomach in two weeks.
How? Excercise every day. No alcohol except Friday and Saturday....maybe Sunday. No carbs. No sugars except in fruit. Minimal fats. Low calorie fasting meals everyday. Let's see how that goes.

But that's short term goal only, surely? With that technique won't that all just go back on?

No alcohol except Friday and Saturday....maybe Sunday. No carbs. You could simply cut out all alcohol and add everything else you'd be denying yourself you know. My wife and I have been going to the gym at minimum 4 days a week since April. Not phoning it in, serious work outs. Since April I've lost 10 pounds. That's two measly pounds a month. Granted, I've not change my eating habits other than to watch portion size, and I've gained muscle and lost inches cause I feel it in the shirt and pant... but the moral of the story is, the scale is never going to be your friend.

I agree with WB about the scales not telling the complete story.
The only time I actually properly went on a proper lifestyle change was in the run up to my wedding. I was in the gym 3 days a week (cardio and weights), I watched what I ate, I cut down on alcohol, and I ate protein EVERY meal. I lost about 2.5 stone. But I dropped about 3 or 4 trouser sizes.
My wife did the same, and being a gentleman I won't quote figures, but she did much better than me.
But for sure the scales didn't tell the whole story.
I will do it again some day before I die of a heart attack too soon (which I know for sure WILL be the thing that eventually kills me).

I don't go to a gym any more because I'm away too much so the monthly fees are a waste of money. Also being away makes it really hard to get a routine going and stick to it. I'm running a lot, well ive just started it and I have a few bits of gym equipment , weights, sit-up thing , wobble boards, stuff like that. So I just have to make myself do it. I know excercise won't really cause weight loss, it will help maintain weight loss, but it will tone up. I need to tone up. And the strict two week diet should take care of the weight loss. WB if you want to lose weight you HAVE to diet in some way. Cutting carbs is the easiest in terms of monitoring.

Death before carb cutting! I couldn't be trusted to simply exercise at home, too many distractions. I need the discipline of making the time, getting dressed, going there which then means that if I've gone through all the trouble to get there, I might as well give it the effort while I'm there.
It's a weird mentality but at least leaving the gym I always feel way better than I did when I did getting there.

Slippery slope LRW, slippery slope! Also Nikki will be next to me bikini clad for one of the weeks! she's running the half marathon in two weeks time , regularly goes to the gym and cuts carbs. Now there's pressure!!

I always had to go to the gym first thing in the morning (6am) because if I left it until after work id always find an excuse not to go.
But at 6am there was no excuse that my wife would accept (the bed being lovely and warm was not an acceptable excuse).

If Nikki only knew what you did with her bikini clad pics of her here she'd never wear a bikini around you again!

It's a weird mentality but at least leaving the gym I always feel way better than I did when I did getting there. Yes I get that. The making the effort and the discipline. I used to go to the gym regularly three days before work for circuits class when I was working and that kept a basic level. On top of that Id swim and do dance classes. It's much harder to do it now that that discipline is gone. I'm trying to get up and run first thing before coffe, before looking on computer. I have a circuit About half an hour but I need to start going longer. When I'm home I also swim twice a week( about 60 lengths) and I cycle to the pool and back. I love walking and should plan more of that too. That's brill in the Alps. Cutting carbs isn't too bad for me. I don't like potatoes that much, especially mashed or boiled . Pasta and rice if I want them I'll generally have brown. Bread I can do without. Cakes I try to avoid but give in occassionally, especially ski week when I make them for everyone after skiing.

Really??? No carbs would go before the wine went.
Well today started well. The excercise was fine. The not eating much other than fruit and nuts was fine. But the fasting meal this evening was foul! It might drive me to alcohol! But today is Sunday, an alcohol ok day.

An update on the diet. Yesterday was a mixed day. Started badly as it was raining so no run, instead half an hour or so upstairs with weights and stuff. Food went brilliant! Only fruit and a bit of goats yoghurt and nuts till Eve meal, and this meal was nice! all good till I rememebred I'd had two Italian biscuits in French class and tasted a new chocolate in Hotel Chocolate. But not too bad. But the meal was nice, so the White wine in the fridge was finished......and then a Fitou opened and finished. So that was bad.
Today, raining again, and I didnt fancey going up to the gym because my head hurts. Nothing to do with the wine. I think it's the food cutting. So this morning started out with a pot of coffee and browsing the Internet, which I appear to still be doing. But the very good news, despite the slight set backs, I now only have 5lbs to loose. So it's working. The scales though I have to say are a bit dodgy.
The rain is stopping so I will run later or do something else excercisey. And absolutely no wine till Friday!! Maybe even Saturday!
