ok, I have a question for you petrol heads. My Skoda Yeti has the rogue software, and Skoda are saying it will need to be changed. Presumably, having changed the software, this will mean that when you drive it and it's in the same state as test conditions, then it will omit more polutants? If that's the case surly it will be better keeping the rogue software and letting the car be a bit cleaner for some if the time? What benefit is it , to the owner, and to the environment, to change the software?
Am I missing something here?

If I understand it correctly - at the moment, the software detects when the car is in a test condition, and enables the strict pollutant regulation software. And when it detects its in normal driving conditions, it disabled the pollutant regulation software to give better performance and mpg.
The changes they make, should be to just remove the detection bit, and leave the pollutant regulation software working all the time - but at a cost of performance and mpg.
I believe.

Thanks LRW, that makes sense.
So if you get a choice whether to take the car in , you have to chose better performance and mpg or cleaner environment. I don't know if you get a choice.
Skoda have said no compensation, yet they've sold a product that is not what they said it was.

Exactly. Thats why so many people are lining up to sue VW - especially over in the States.

Yes. There's a lawyer here taking names already.

VW is at the top of my KIV list now. Waiting for the suits to kick in and watch the stock take another dive and then I'm gonna help them out a bit.

I don't think you'll have a choice to take it in. The testing will be changed and you'll fail emissions if you don't get the software changed. You'll feel a performance hit because the workaround was to make the engine more powerful. I don't know if you'll actually feel both performance and mpg drops.
This is really a big corporate scam. It's also clear that it hasn't just been VW, but they are the largest TDI manufacturer globally so they OWN the PR.

The Justice Department filed a suit against VW today over the emissions-cheating software installed in about 600,000 vehicles in the United States. It's official now.

So they've got one month to come to an agreement or it goes to trial.... good luck with that.

U.K. Lawyers are going for at least 25% of the value of the car for owners. London based firm is representing all owners in a no win no fee basis,
Presumably whatever happens in the states will set a precedent.

With the focus in the US to be jobs, jobs, jobs and VW having a large production of the vehicles, trucks and jettas from what I recall here in the states, there is a suggestion they may make out with what's effectively a slap on the wrist. A fine certain ecological based non profits could use as funding and a commitment to build more electric cars and that may wind up being it.
They already extended warranties and even given a large subsidy towards the purchase of a new car. Right now all dealer inventory of diesel vehicles, whether the be Porsche Audi or VW in the states is not allowed to be sold, either privately or through a dealer.

The decimation of VW begins from within.

VW took another little dive today, but overall it seems to have balanced out at 120euros. I had gone for 10 shares at 106, with another 10 waiting at 95....but it's looking like we'd be screwing around this level for a long time before the next jump in the German sharemarket, which would probably happen only after 2018. Since we're all due a big (stockmarket) crisis within the next year.
