Everyone knows someone, I'm not meaning like your boss or someone running a business that has reason to be this way but that friend who suddenly has to leave the bar just as it gets to his/her round and some come up with some really surprising new ways of displaying just how tight they can be.
So, this one friend used to come over often and for every GP over years, I'd always make something to eat and get in other munchies never thinking about getting anything in return. One day he said his partner and kids were going to be away for the weekend so we could watch the race at his and he'd cook something up. I've gone over and shortly before the race he went off to start cooking, I joined him in the kitchen and he brought out a packet of sausages proudly proclaiming that they were only 35p as they were just about out of date and he had some rolls too. My thoughts that he couldn't get much tighter were soon to be proven wrong. Once he cooked the sausages he put 2 on a plate and cut them down the middle lengthways, opened them out and put each split sausage on a roll and handed me the rolls, then he took his own rolls and put 2 sausages onto each roll. I couldn't believe he was being tight with his 35p sausages!
Anyone else got one of these friends, or maybe you're like that yourself and go to ridiculous lengths to save a couple of pennies?

Him: Can I have some of your fries?
Me: No you can't have some of my fries! You want me to BUY you your own fries I'll buy you your own damned fries, but I don't want you putting your hands on my fries. I'll buy you your own fries, do you want them???
Insert conversation into every single fast food joint we walked into together.

Man you find this sort of stuff in Asia all the time....cheapass overpromising under delivering Asians.
Anyway, just last weekend I had a party at the unit I just sold (a farewell) with 6 others...great fun with a bottle of JW double black, beers, some seriously good (non halal) pizza and some pot to end the night.
When this 1 dude wanted to leave, he was like "so how much do I owe you for the pizzas n stuff".
I wasn't too surprised with that, he's a good guy but hardly gets invited to parties since he's a bit of a mamas boy. Everytime a bunch of us have dinners or smth, he's the guy who grabs as much as he can (like we're all wolves) and counts his portion of the bill to the cent. Had to tell him "dude, it's my party so it's on me - have a safe drive home".
And no he wasn't high.

We ordered a phal as the 3rd one.

I wouldn't put it past the guy I know to do that.
Same guy, but a long time ago just at the time when we'd started moving out from our parents we used to go to someone's flat for a smoke and PlayStation, everyone except tight guy would turn up with supplies of munchies and bottles of juice and stuff. There was one evening when tight guy did think to bring something along. He pulled out a chocolate Swiss roll, everyone else thinking the same thing'wow, he's brought something' then he takes the wrapper off and.......
.......bites a bit off going right along the edge of it.

Out of curiosity did you guys both live on your own? I have been working steady since I was 13, never not had a job so I always had money in my pocket and when I moved out of my parents house at the age of 24 it was to move into an apartment I'd purchased.
So most of my friends I had, I worked with which meant they also had money. The one cheap ass guy with the fries delivered newspapers.

I've had my own place since about 20, tight guy spent his time between living with various partners or back at his parents then settled down with someone for a while had a kid, split up and now he has his own place. He won't put the heating on in the middle of winter and its f'in freezing. He's always worked and has always been able to afford loads of transformers and other toys (for himself!)
It seems to be the concept of sharing that he doesn't get, I don't know if it's from being an only child or not.
I went over one afternoon when he said him and his son were just sitting in playing computer games. When I got there he was playing the transformers game with his son wandering around getting bored and saying he wanted to play Mario kart. So he finished playing a couple of levels of transformers and said to his son'we've been playing your game now I want to play my game' and put on guitar hero and played that by himself for a while. Kid was getting more and more bored and eventually he finished playing guitar Hero and put on Mario kart for the kid. Within a couple of minutes of the kid playing, tight guy goes'this bits too difficult for you, I'll do it' took the controller off him and carried on playing himself.

I started living by myself since starting university at the hostels....that was 19. Most of the guys I know, maybe 90% of them have been by themselves since uni. But this tight guy stays at his parents house (more like an investment prop, parents are in Penang in North of Msia) with his elder brother. And he's pretty careful about spending, oh yeah 1 other thing...whenever we go for dinner in a group, he insists on paying for everyone using his credit card. Of course we gotta pay him back, the credit card is to help him accumulate those precious points.

Don't know how you do it Hammer, you're a young guy and seem to be very responsible with your money. Seriously, if I have 20 dollars in my pocket, I'm looking for stuff to buy that costs 22 dollars.
I'm the proverbial drunken sailor with money, which means that my wife handles entirely 100% of the household finance. My pay is direct deposited and I don't see it, she pays for everything.
I know there's cheap ass but then again, there's me... the other extreme.

stonemonkey - have you confronted sausage boy? Would be interesting to see what he says, or if he could defend his tight-arsedness. I can't get over the fact that he gave you half a sausage in each bun!! When it comes to money, I'm like Wß. Pretty much everymonth I'm down to my last £10 in the bank. I've been like that since the day I got my first job at 16. I now earn almost x10 what I earnt then, but I'm still pretty much broke at the end of every month.

Confronted him about the Swiss roll incident, he came out with something about increasing the filling to sponge ratio by removing some of the sponge.
