Anyone else have any experiemce with it?
I had a go with the gear vr for samsung phones last night, keen to have a go but not really expecting too much from a phone based system i was really surprised. I saw two demos, a rollercoaster thing and a demo where you walk through some creepy rooms kind of in the style of silent hill, the latter being really immersive for just a simple demo.
At one point there was something that made it feel strange, i think my mums dog must've been a bit confused by what i was doing and he came over to me and was pressing himself against my leg, i went to pat him and looked down, and while i could feel what i was doing i was just looking down at an empty floor, no dog and i didn't have any arms or legs so there was a bit of conflict ofthe senses though not in any unpleasant way. It did make me think though that some type of glove that can be tracked and show your hands in the virtual world will be needed.
Overall though, very impressed from a ccouple of simple demos on a phone so can't wait to try out what sony and microsoft will be offering up from their consoles vr systems.

The biggest expense is the phone itself. The VR gear can be had on the cheap. I've got to think that driving and piloting simulations are going to be the best solutions. Like stonemonkey describes, the disconnected feeling when you're "interacting" with the world you'd need tactile gloves and the costs skyrocket.

I'm impressed...no one's mentioned VR Porn yet. That'll take some add ons other than the gloves. I think the sony playstation headset's to be about £350, don't know about microsoft's and i'm not totally sure what it is that microsoft is doing as it seems to be more augmented reality. Ive just got my hands on a cheap one thats google cardboard compatible, its ok but nowhere near as good as the gear vr, i think partly because my phone (z3 compact) is a little on the small side so screen edges are visible and theres a bit of fish eye.

for those of us that are bespectacled, are the lenses adjustable? I've never even held a goggle in my hands but they're priced at 99 bucks. I keep coming back to this being a great thing for driving sims.

The gear vr has some focus adjustment but you'd probably have to hunt around a bit for a generic one that has. They may have some allowance for wearing glasses with them.
Ive just watched a project cars vr video on youtube, the video is taken with the players head movements so i didnt get the vr feeling but it still looked very good. As far as i know GT sport on PS4 is going to be able to make use of it and project cars on the pc already does

Don't laugh, it's actually a pretty ingenious way to offer VR sex, full story at the link.
