Monday won't be blue! Creating a thread to discuss the various tidbits that show up on the cars and the engines that blow up on the track. Couldn't have picked better weather to test the new Pirelli rubber all out.

I hope it's close! I remember winter testing 2005. We had years of Ferrari domination, and suddenly it seemed like Renault and McLaren were at the fore. So exciting.
I'm not saying I hope Merc tumble, but my goodness, it'd be good to have 2 or 3 teams all able to compete for the plaudits.

And they're OFF!!! Bottas sets the first time of 2017, 1:33:445 Compared to the first lapped time of 2016 from Ricciardo of 1:40.746
For reference, day 1 in 2016 ended with fastest lap from Vettel 1:24.939 and Hamilton doing 156 laps.

And now Bottas is down to a 1:24.654 (Already faster than day 1 2016)
I think it's safe to say, these cars are FAST
*Edit
Vettel down to 1:23.560

All my money and assets are on Ferrari being fastest of everyone in winter testing.

Award for first red flag breakdown goes to... Mclaren! (oh wait, wrong envelope....)
Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull!
Spoke too soon.... McLaren, upset at having missed out on the Red Flag award, have promptly found an oil leak and won't be on track for another few hours!

Quick recap: Bottas on top with the only Soft tyre time, a blistering 0.190 faster than Vettel's Medium run: a 1:23.370 To put it in perspective, that's after the first 2 hours of winter testing and compares with a 1:22.765 (fastest winter test time overall for 2016) and a 1:22:000 (pole time for 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.
Red Bull are "sensitive" as usual (sensor fault stopping Ricciardo), but should be up and running again soon.
Williams has the old bloke running out there around 1.5s off the top pace, but into the double digits for laps run. Perez and Hulkenburg around the same time/laps marker.
Alonso got an out lap and sprung a leak, which is apparently at the front of the power unit and will take around 4hrs to pull apart, fix, and rebuild. The more things change......
Magnussen (aside from a stall at pit exit) and Sainz Jr have had no trouble, only doing single shake down laps, no times recorded so far.

God damn this is a good looking car. Especially love how the bull's tail is perfectly mirrored by the fin.

First day out and you know these cars are still three seconds away from where they're going to be in the Spanish GP come the season.
Items of note, Ferrari and Mercedes both stated evolution of their existing PU designs. Red Bull and Honda stated complete rethinking of their PUs. We're going to see a lot of growing pains for both Renault and McLaren. At this point having on one team to gather data (at the insistence of McLaren) has to be really hurting Honda.

This rushed design over the sidepod (Petronas) makes me think the entire sidepod area will be redesigned. Or something's going on with that barge board till Melbourne. Obviously a last minute BS design solution.
