Or they really are just testing stuff, like they should be doing!

Day 1 results. Interesting Notes: - Ferrari completed almost double the laps (126 to 69) as on Day 1 2016, 3.161s faster this year
- Mercedes completed 152 laps compared to 156 last year, 3.644s faster this year
- Ricciardo (3.118 faster), Sainz Jr (2.606 faster), and Ericsson (1.714 faster) are the only other 3 drivers to have driven Day 1 last year and this.
- 1.944 seconds (1:21.765 to 1:23.709) between Hamilton (P1) and Perez (P7) compared with 2.241 between P1 and P7 last year
Not that testing means anything.....

Yep, only testing. Still nice to see Lewis at the top though.

Some nice amateur video from today, amateur only in that it's not professional but it's anything but amateur.

So far Hamilton's 1:21.7xx was right at the start of a stint, he continued round lap after lap and on low fuel alone will be 2.5+ seconds faster so over 2 seconds faster than the lap record and we aren't even running the softest compound or in qualli engine mode.
He's done the same run twice now and during the run he's able to go purple quite often, even showing that with the fuel he has on board he can at least do a 1:21.2 and then later on he actually does a 1:20.9

So. Lap record: 1:21.670 (Kimi Räikkönen, Ferrari, 2008) This afternoon. Lewis Hamilton: 1:21.765 I stand corrected. That record above is for a race lap record. Fastest lap ever is by Fernando Alonso, setting a time of 1:18.483 during 2008 F1 testing, using Ferrari F2008. Lewis so far has done 1:20.983. So still 2.5s off the record.

The Fonz wasn't driving for Ferrari in 2008 though. It was Massa & Kimi.

I think it's 1:19.8 or so in its current configuration, Webber 2010.

Merc attempting full race sim on day 2 of testing. That's probably more scary than any of the times we'll see laid down today. They should also nip this shit in the bud before they get out of control. Two T winglets are better than one.

What's scarier is Ferrari can't even lead the field this time with their glory fume runs. Might be battling Force India for 3rd place this time.

I love some most of the various F1 site's comments section right now.... "*insert insulting name play on Lewis Hamilton* is crap, smashed by Kimi on harder tyres! GO FERRARI!"
*ahem* *Points to 2016 pre-season top times* *Points to final WDC & WCC standings* *Drops mic*

Fastest RACE Lap - 1:21.670 (Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari, 2008) Fastest POLE Lap - 1:19.954 (Rubens Barrichello, Brawn GP, 2009) Fastest TEST Lap - 1:18.339 (Felipe Massa, Ferrari, April Testing 2008) Of note with that test lap time, it was run on Bridgestone development slick tyres (ahead of introduction in 2009) and modified 2008 aero, so not really relevant.
