Pretty simple, rank all of the current F1 drivers in order from best driver to worst... I know it's pretty hard and people will have differences but keep it civil All of the drivers (NOT IN MY ORDER): Lewis Hamilton Sebastian Vettel Valtteri Bottas Daniel Ricciardo Kimi Räikkönen Max Verstappen Sergio Perez Esteban Ocon Carlos Sainz Nico Hulkenberg Felipe Massa Lance Stroll Romain Grosjean Kevin Magnussen Fernando Alonso Pascal Wehrlein Daniil Kvyat Stoffel Vandoorne Jolyon Palmer Marcus Ericsson

My order:
Lewis Hamilton 1 Fernando Alonso 1 Daniel Ricciardo 1 Max Verstappen 2 Sebastian Vettel 2 Pascal Wehrlein 3 Nico Hulkenberg 4 Valtteri Bottas 4 Esteban Ocon 4 Sergio Perez 4 Carlos Sainz 4 Jolyon Palmer 4 Kimi Räikkönen 5 Felipe Massa 5 Kevin Magnussen 6 Romain Grosjean 6 Daniil Kvyat 6 Stoffel Vandoorne 6 Lance Stroll 7 Marcus Ericsson 8
The numbers beside them are to show the "tiers" of drivers, so Hamilton, Alonso and Ricciardio I rank all very very close, but there is a gap from how good they are to how good Vettel & Verstappen are.

So if they're ranked in order, what are the numbers? Does number one mean first equal or does it mean top tiier but then ranked within that tier by the order in which you've placed them? Cooking tea now. Will have a think while doing so.

Okay. Here's mine. Still not sure what the numbers are so I'll just put them in order.
Hamilton1
Ricciardo. Verstappen 1 ( equal)
Vettel 1
Alonso 1
Ocon 2
Perez 2
Bottas 2
Sainz2
Van 2
Hulk 3
Raik 3
Gros 3
Massa 3
Wherlein 4
Stroll 4
kvyat 4
Mag 4
Erickson 5
Palmer 5
I think that's about it. Though some are fluid and move up and down a bit I've read the weeks.
Lewis at the top, he's still my number 1. I like him the best because of his driving, not vice versa...if that makes sense.
The RedBull duo , both equal to me, I rate them both for different reasons, different stages of their carreers, different skills.
Vettel, impressed me this year. But has done the opposite other years. Not impressed by his insistence on Kimi as a team mate ...and that also Kimi as a comparison makes ultimately placing him difficult.
Alonso is he outdriving the car? Or is the car better than is let on? He's a wily fox. But Vandoorne outfoxed him today on a tricky circuit.
Bottas has been solid and a good team player, but too often he's too far away from Hamilton.
At the other end, Palmer and Ericsson . Ericsson to me is Mr. . invisible. I forget what he looks like, forget how he drives and forget who he drives for.

Here's the idea of the numbers. Think about them as tiers. Since you can argue until you're blue in the face who is "best" It's easier to put them into tiers. So Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso would be in most people's category one of drivers.

Yes I think that's what I settled on doing when I saw how others were doing it. Still a tricky excercise! Most SANE people would put the drivers you mentioned in the top tier...... but there are those who walk amongst us that are just plum crazy!

I class my tiers slightly differently. Note: "perform" doesn't mean win, it means put the car ahead of where it should be at the time (i.e. a Williams on the podium)
Tier 1 - Drivers who can perform in all conditions and don't require a "perfect" car. Tier 2 - Drivers who can perform in all conditions, but need the car to be perfect. Tier 3 - Drivers who perform better in certain conditions, but can get by with a less than perfect car. Tier 4 - Drivers who need the perfect car and conditions to perform. Tier 5 - Drivers who are just making up numbers and couldn't win if they were the only car in a 1 lap cruise.
For example:
T1 - Hamilton. Can work with what he's given, overcome issues, and performs in all conditions. T2 - Vettel. If the car is built specifically for his style, can perform brilliantly all round. If the car isn't suited, struggles. T3 - Perez. Average in the dry, with results reflecting the car. Really good in the wet, with results ahead of where the car should be. T4 - Stroll. If the car is perfect, and the conditions those that he loves, he can push top 6 results. Otherwise, outside the points. T5 - Erickson. No more needs to be said.

You know what? We should have started out with a standard 'tier' system that we could all apply, I was a bit confused about the numbers and went random. Want to do mine again now! So dogued, what is your driver ranking based on your tiers?

You can submit yours again with his tier system too RC

I'd probably still be a bit random. LOL. I know my top ones, and my bottom ones, but the Middle bit is somewhat fluid.

I ran across this and thought it was a very good visual for the thread here. Visualization of the career qualifying records of Hamilton, Vettel, and Alonso

That’s really interesting. Hamilton the only one of three in the positive against all team mates. Alonso close , Vettel the worst of the three.
We knew Rosberg could qualify.... but look how close his record against Hamilton is to Alonso’s . Button meanwhile is a country mile off.
