Fair Statement IMO. Mclaren Honda are going to suck again, talks about engines gains so far haven't got me excited. The McH is still going to get ass raped on the straights.

MY man Button ! But yes I see why you mean. And guess what, he's already lost me a point in qualifying. And who'd bet against the race being unexpectedly windy? Or slippy? Or bumpy? Or his car just mysteriously looses all grip without rhyme or reason? And that's another 2 points down the drain. Anyway, good to see Alonso in the car, both drivers think there's serious pace in that car. But why oh why did I forsake you Nando??

Excellent stuff from Alonso today, bagging some valuable points for McLaren. Thankfully, this year seems to be going a damn sight better than 2015, but there's still a hell of a long way to go.
Onwards!

There would be some massive vindication should he find himself fighting for a championship while Ferrari spend yet another year looking for something to blame every weekend.

Fernando Alonso believes his decision to leave Ferrari was the right decision ( though he wishes them well) He says to win a third championship he has to be in a McLaren Hinda or a Mercedes en.f1i.com/news/67147-alonso-mclaren-mercedes-give-third-title.htmlOne always wonders with Alonso( as with Button) what political games are going in when he makes such statements. To Ferrari ( just in case you come good and I want back in) - a great team that I wsh well and hold in my heart. To McLaren Honda ( in case they come good) great team, so lucky to be here. This is the one that can challenge Mercedes. To Mecedes ( in case Rosberg continues screwing up) yep. This the winning team!! Don't forget me!!

And then there's Hamilton to contend with if he'd get into a Mercedes. I think a lot of the writing this month is more click bait than content. We've got two more weeks of it.

Would the Fonz really want to partner his worst nightmare again? Last time he managed to get away with it with some sneaky PR "British team for British driver" and many fools fell for it. If he goes to a German team (which won't happen, Merc want a German there) and get spanked again by the rookie who spanked him 9 years ago it's going to be a very sober retirement for the "best driver on the grid - Fonzo". I daresay Fonzo wouldn't do much better than what Rosberg is doing now. He can't even put Button away consistently enough. Always been mediocre on a Saturday and Saturdays are important.

Talking of what ifs... 2017, McLaren becomes the primary competitor to Mercedes, with a resurgent Red Bull with class leading aero and revived PU right there with them and we find ourselves in a three way battle for both the WCC and WDC. Sorry Ferrari guys, 2017 is a rebuilding year similar to 2014.

It seems like the level of Fonzi's desperation is directly proportional to Lewis' success.

If McHonda doesn't come through next year, he's really done with the 3rd championship quest.

Why does Fernando Alonso race in F1? There's an article here answering the question. It's quite an honest answer from Alonso I reckon, and he doesn't pull the punches on his ruthlessness. Alonso is and has always been very competitive from an early age, as a child he raced his grandma on the school run...... “I had to beat her,” says Alonso. “Every day! That doesn’t make me sound very nice, does it?”And on his ruthlessness he says..... “You need to have no heart,” he says. “You are not enemies with the other drivers, but you have to focus on yourself to win. If you can ‘hurt’ someone by getting an advantage over them, that’s even better.”
And yet it isn't for the competition that he's in F1........ “No, that’s not it, I am a competitive person and competition is important in F1, but I don’t race in F1 for the competition. I can get that in other areas of my life, like cycling and playing tennis – or racing my mother to the supermarket. The reason I race in F1 is because the cars give me a feeling that I can’t get anywhere else. It’s unique.” “It’s hard to explain what this feeling is like,” he says, “because nothing else comes close to F1. Your brain has to re-set every time you get in the car because things happen so fast. If you haven’t driven an F1 car for a few weeks, the level of performance takes you by surprise. “I go karting to enjoy the competition; I drive in F1 for this feeling. The driving styles in karting and F1 are quite similar, but nothing unexpected happens in a go-kart. Your brain is never taken by surprise. You can predict everything that the kart is going to do. That isn’t the case in F1, where you’re taken by surprise all the time. When you hit the brakes, your brain takes 0.2s to catch up. That’s a very nice feeling; that is the feeling.” “I’ve never needed to prepare myself mentally before getting in the car,” he says. “I’m ready all the time; I don’t need to psyche myself up. My mentality doesn’t change, whether it’s free practice, qualifying or the race.”
The article goes on to talk about what sets Slonso apart from most other drivers, his particular skills. It talks to people who have worked with him. www.mclaren.com/formula1/team/fernando-alonso/fernando-alonso-why-i-race-3163556/( there's also an older article on what makes Button race. I've skimmed it and am already irritated. I'll post that in the Button thread later)

I love it, hardest and the most complete driver he's ever worked with...Jenson. Flavio, biggest influence on his career another dirty scumbag like Bernie, man the inner workings and machinations of the F1 show are indeed a cesspool. No wonder some drivers choose to stay away from the folds of it.

No wonder some drivers choose to stay away from the folds of it. The same guy who said the Championship contending Ferrari in the 2011/2012 was a 'midfield' car. The same guy who "knew nothing about the goings on in Singapore 2008". Despite coming from 14th to win the race in a midfield car. The same guy who "never asked for No.1 status at Mclaren" but at the same time McLaren weren't treating him like a double world champ. I could go on, but everyone knows I'm the biggest Alonso fan around so why bother.
