Thread for online puzzles, games, mind teasers, twisters. Always fun. I really like this one: The answer is not an exact science or probability but still completely logical. Have a try? Those who've seen this, kindly don't reveal as yet.

Its the old prisoners dilemma. Its easily solveable by drawing up a payoff matrix for all the combinations of outcomes, otherwise trying to think thru he outcomes will be painful

I've seen something like this before, and when you know the answer its obvious, but I can't remember. I'll keep thinking.

there are 2 outcomes here
1 - First guy shouts because the 2 guys he can see both have the same colour, so his own must be the opposite 2 - Second guy shouts because first guy didnt shout - meaning first guy can see that secon and thir guys have opposite colours, so person 2 realises his own colour must b opposite to the one he can see on third guy
If this particular puzzle is based on the hats we can see in the picture then guy 2 must shout

But your 2 is pretty much on the money. Well done!

Yes I solved it for any starting position, the one we can see is solution 2, if the hats were arranged in any other order apart from alternating then its solution 1

Okay not reading the responses, but it's got to be first guy number one screaming out his hat is black.
The reasoning is as follows...
He can see a white hat and a black hat in guys 2 and 3. So he knows he can be either or with those options. But what if he saw two guys in white? If you pretend that man 3 was white, all things being equal then there has to be two additional black hats, one of which would be his. But he doesn't it's one and one. Well the other option, what if he saw two black hats, then he'd know immediately his was one of them. But he's seeing one white and one black. which means that the guy he can't see can also be black or white but that's the thing. If you exchange guy 3 with guy 4 if guy 4 is white he'd have to be black because he'd be the fourth hat. If guy 4 was black then he'd be seeing two black. So He'd always see two of the same hat colors but since that's not the case, in this scenario his hat would have to be black because it's the only combination that would work allowing him to see one color of each.
Let me go read the comments now.

Okay so here's mine. Try to deduce which number parking space, given the sequence the car is blocking from view.

Well done cookie, I was on the right track but it is difficult trying to do it in your head and keeping things straight. Your number 2 scenario is nice and succinct.

That one is cuter more than it is harder but I ran across it recently. Apparently kids get it right away, adults don't.

What if you don't have a mouse? The sad face at the end is heartbreaking, you can just double tap or hold your finger on the text to make it show (for mobile devices) Or you could just quote my post and click BBCode at bottom to see it in text format Yup that works too That one is cuter more than it is harder but I ran across it recently. Apparently kids get it right away, adults don't. At what age do they define someone as an adult because I got it straight away... :S

Its not about how old kids are, its just that kids are more likely to use 'both sides' of the brain, whereas adults (especially those who have been through classic western education) are likely to only use logic.
This demonstrates how flawed the classical system is. Convergent sequential problem solving is only part of what makes us win, but its the part pushed in education and rated in IQ scores. Whereas the divergent process is actually what is missing from many, - except geniuses.
This is why Larry Ellison (founder of oracle) turned up at Harvard business chool and told the students they were fkd just by completeing the education programme and would never be Steve Jobs, or Bill Gates or the biggest enterprenuers who didnt go to BS or didnt complete any classic degree or Uni education
