Vietnam is on the cards for possibly next year , so I'll try to visit there. Is it in Ho Chi Minh City? I think what got to me alot about the killing fields and the torture prison was that it was all brought about by their own leader, not during a war. It's like they were betrayed. Whereabouts in Malaysia are you based?

Yep, its the War Remnants Museum. Very powerful depiction of the struggle of Vietnam, and the sad part is how it is still affecting them today, 2-3 generations down. For me, the killing fields in Cambodia did not get me as much since I didn't use the headphones which tell the story...I just read the signs and there's not much to see. I missed out a lot of the story since it was a rushed trip. We spent a lot of time in the prison though and that one was quite painful. Yep, they had their own struggle for political power and a couple of psychos contributed to the suffering of the people. Now where have we heard of that before lol. I'm based in KL..well a suburb about 20min from the city center.

I was about two to three hours in the killng fields with the headphones. And im reading now the book 'surviving the killing fields' I just can't write some of things the guy witnessed.... Especially the stuff done to pregnant women. You wouldn't believe it really happenned. You're right Hammer, psychos with power do dreadful stuff....and all the sadists come out of the woodwork and act out their evil fantasies. So horrible. Anyway, I'm in Siem Reap now and hopefully will be seeing beautiful things. Tomorrow it's up at 4 and off to Angkor Wat to see the sunrise over the temple. The largest part of the temple is bigger than Nôtre Dame. Going in a tuk tuk. I love tuk tuks.

SIEM REAP!!! My favourite place on planet earth...we made it an annual trip in my little group, went for Christmas party 2 years ago, and New Years last December. But NY is just too crowded though, so we plan to go for Christmas again this coming December. Tuk tuks are fun. Msia doesn't have them, so we managed to rent one and drive (ride?) it ourselves to Angkor Wat. Spent more time riding it than visiting the temples....went to three major ones and the rest of the time trying to drift with the tuk tuk.

Out the hotel at 4.30 a.m and not back till 4.30 pm. Walked most of that time nackered! Been to the night market and pub street and have now collapsed. Went to three temples and one was where they filmed tomb raider. I'll post a few picks.

Yep! I've stood on those tree trunks. I have this strange need to go and test the grip on my slippers by standing on various tree trunks...and I was the only one doing it in a crowd of people that time. Cool place. Most people were taking selfies and pics....and I was standing on those trunks there. :S
Rc, do you feel like a Queen in Siem Reap? With Malaysian currency, I feel like I'm some sort of royalty over there with the food and alcohol prices. I can only imagine with Pound sterling everything much seem almost free for you!

It seems that 'happy hour' is on all the time. They deal in US dollars and cocktails are just one dollar. Beer is half a dollar , Yes really cheap! Very easy to get out your head...but not a good idea if your templing the next day. Going to temples again today, a bit further afield so should see more of the countryside. Going in a tuk tuk again :-) not such an early start today 8.45, much more civilised!! Food is delicious! Love the fish or chicken 'amok'.

I can't quite recall the name of the river but if you have time, there's a famous river nearby where they take you on a small tour by boat. Just before you board the boat, there's this dodgy looking stall nearby which serves chicken amok... we stopped there for a bite since we were already hungry and risked possible food poisoning. But you know what...it was the best dish by far we've ever tasted in Cambodia. Knocks hotel dishes out of the park and it cost $6/pax. AMAZING. We finished every bit of food/gravy served.

Tomorrow morning Im going to the Pembrookshire coast to do the coastal path, not all of it, about a third of it, five days of walking. And I seem to have done something to my right foot at Silverstone....which doesn't bode well. But it is a bit better than it was.
