Clown sightings spook residents in US state of South Carolina, police perplexed
GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA: One clown showed up on a roadside in a rain poncho, another waved money at children near woods.
The reported sightings of silent, menacing clowns in north-eastern South Carolina may be part of a horror movie publicity stunt or an elaborate hoax, but they are no laughing matter for parents and police.
Over the past two weeks, residents have told the authorities they have spotted clowns, or people who looked like clowns, on at least eight occasions.
Investigators have failed to confirm a single sighting and the descriptions have varied in detail. But the police are nevertheless urging parents to be cautious.
"I will usually let my son play in our backyard where I can see him from the kitchen, but now I won't let him go outside the house without me," said Ms Jessie Owen, a 29-year-old Greenville mother of two. "All it would take is one second. One promise of candy and he would be gone."
One theory is that the clowns are connected to the release of the independent horror movie "31", by director Rob Zombie. A preview of the movie, which features a gang of sadistic clowns, screened on Thursday evening at a theatre in Greenville, population 61,000.
Greenville police chief Ken Miller told reporters that investigators do not know if the sightings had any connection with the movie, whether it was one or more people looking for "kicks" or something more sinister.
Representatives of the movie could not be reached for comment.
One motorist in Greenville called 911 to say he caught a fleeting glimpse of a figure standing the side of the road wearing a "clown mask" and a clear rain poncho, according to Master Deputy Ryan Flood of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. The caller said the clown then disappeared into a woods.
The officer who investigated the alleged sighting was unable to find anything suspicious, Flood said, just as with the previous reports from in and around Greenville.
Two days earlier, a women said she saw a middle-aged man with white facial makeup and flaming red hair standing silently outside a laundromat. Police fielded two reports of clown sightings on Thursday from an apartment complex in town.
Sightings have spread to a neighboring county, where a woman in Spartanburg reported seeing a person dressed as a clown in her backyard on Wednesday night.
Several people reported seeing a man dressed as a clown outside Greenville trying to lure the children into the woods by waving a wad of cash and a green laser light. "This is something we are taking very seriously, especially because of the allegations of the people dressed at clowns attempting to lure children into the woods," Mr Flood said.
The restiveness in Greenville was enough for police to warn that South Carolina law prohibits anyone over age 18 from dressing up as a clown.
Chief Miller said a city ordinance related to "molesting or disturbing the public" could also lead to prosecution of clowns taken into custody. – Reuters

Nah. I turn my data off soon as I cross the channel. You know what I'm like with technology, just don't want to risk massive bills cos I've pressed a wrong button or left something on.

Washington Post - A man who injured nine people in a shooting rampage in Houston on Monday was wearing military clothes and Nazi emblems during the attack, and was carrying nearly 2,600 rounds of ammunition inside a Porsche convertible parked at the scene, authorities said. The gunman, identified by local media as Nathan DeSai, 46, was shot and killed by police after he opened fire on morning commuters near a strip mall in a mostly residential neighborhood west of downtown. Police did not publicly name DeSai as the shooter, but the Houston Chronicle and KTRK reported that they had confirmed his identity with officials. The shooter was carrying a .45-caliber handgun and wearing “military-style apparel” during the shooting, with vintage Nazi emblems on his clothes and “on his personal effects,” police said in a news briefing Monday afternoon. A search of his apartment, which is several blocks from the scene, turned up similar military memorabilia going back to the Civil War, police said. A bomb squad that searched his black Porsche convertible uncovered a Thompson submachine gun — commonly known as a Tommy gun — and nearly 2,600 rounds of live ammunition, according to police, who said he purchased both of his firearms legally. Police also found a sheathed knife, a notebook with a Nazi symbol and 75 spent shell casings on the scene.

To be clear, it's the Porsche part I can't make up. The shooting part and white supremacist... that's easy.

Robots need ‘kill switches’, warn Euro MPsThe unstoppable rise of robots in our everyday lives requires urgent EU rules such as "kill switches", European Parliament members warned as they passed a resolution urging Brussels into action on automaton ethics. Mady Delvaux, a Socialist MEP from Luxembourg, led the campaign and warned that Europe is passively standing by as robots take an increasingly powerful role that will grow even stronger with the emergence of driverless cars. To encourage EU action, Delvaux tabled a resolution at the European Parliament that also includes the need for an EU agency specialised in dealing with artificial intelligence. Once passed, Delvaux's resolution could force the European Commission, the EU's executive arm, to begin work on laws that deal with these issues head-on. "A growing number of areas of our daily lives are increasingly affected by robotics," Delvaux said after a committee vote on her measure. "In order... to ensure that robots are and will remain in the service of humans, we urgently need to create a robust European legal framework," she said. Delvaux's resolution was easily passed by the European Parliament's legal affairs committee on Jan 11 and now faces a plenary vote, probably in February. Her report is a broad overview on how robots are creeping into the lives of humans and what the EU can do to stay in control. Its recommendations are wide-ranging, including the kill switch allowing humans to shut down a robot at the smallest sign of danger. 'Apocalyptic scenario' Without such rules, "humanity could face the apocalyptic scenario where robots turn on their human masters," Delvaux warned in an interview with EU affairs website EurActiv. Delavaux also warned that robots cannot be your friend, no matter how emotionally involving they may become. "We always have to remind people that robots are not human and will never be. Although they might appear to show empathy, they cannot feel it," she added. The report recommends an EU agency for robotics to oversee all European regulation involving robots, like the bloc already has for food safety or aviation. Most urgently, the report demands that the EU draw up a legal framework for driverless cars. Auto builders want to see robotic cars on the roads by 2020, but difficult questions remain on who would be legally liable in the case of a car crash. "If all decisions of a machine are no longer directly attributable to the actions of a person, it must be clarified who is liable if something goes wrong," said Greens MEP Julia Reda, who backed the report. To fill this void, the MEPs called for an obligatory insurance scheme and a fund to ensure victims are fully compensated in cases of accidents. The report also called for the EU to find ways to help the millions of workers who will inevitably lose their jobs as industries become increasingly automated. — AFP _______________________________________________

As is the case for the majority of machinery in use i dont disagree that all machinery should have emergency stop/shutdown controls that shouldn't be disconected or over ridden but her reasoning seems to be borne from fantasy from watching too many movies.

This thread actually fell to the 2nd page? In todays world? Allow me to bump it up. Can you believe, we actually have a debate going on after this 1 fucking psycho bastard of a minister in this god forsaken shithole, actually said a victim of rape isn't necessarily a victim if the rapist is able to provide the victim a better life. No, there was no typo and you are not drunk enough. This is the original link with fuckfaces face: www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2017/04/04/tasek-gelugor-mp-not-impossible-for-12-year-old-girls-to-be-married/#d1Xwh2rtL1CQDhJt.99TLDR version: “The girl becomes safer when she is married rather than when she is left alone. Don’t assume they (rapists) remain bad people,” he said. This is the 'expert' opinion: www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2017/04/06/expert-victim-rapist-marriage-rewards-rapist-punishes-victim/I'm not disagreeing with the expert opinion, but I'm just shocked that they're actually debating this or even giving the words of the retard any sort of weight. The logic of the retard is basically saying "Hey...that girl is hot and I'd like to marry her" - Proceed to rape. And it's ok. I need a green card ASAP. Wß what's the fastest way to get a green card without marrying anyone? I feel my skin itching right now, holding a msian passport ugh!! Gives me even more motivation to get my biz up n running so I can fuck off.

Yes I saw what Erdogan had suggested. Rapists could get out of prison if they agreed to marry their victims. I'm not sure how the victim's feel about this. But no one there gives a shit, they're women.
And in Sweden they've okayed a pregnant 12 year old to marry her 21 year old cousin. Ok maybe not rape, but she's 12. The religion of peace incest and paedaphillia.
It's sickening.

Tesla is now the most valued American car company. I never understood the Wall St. fascination with growth potential when so many of that expected potential tends to fall flat but I guess when there's enough money to be speculative, it doesn't matter if you take a bath every now and then. I think Electric is not the future of the automobile, but what the hell do I know.

Okay so i am against Erdoğan 10000000% and i showed a big backlash when those news were around. I can also say I'm an ex Muslim. But thing is, i believe all religions do share the same views. Idk if we can see such sick beliefs in a religion. Also this is why im no longer a Muslim but also why i don't claim another religion
