Yes, I really am going to Monza!! It's impending removal from the calendar spurred me on. I adore Silverstone and the atmosphere there and I think Monza will be similar. I bought my tickets yesterday, they are at Prima Varianti grandstand. Grandstand 8, it's on the outside of the first corner, one of the heaviest breaking zones in F1. It was either there or the last corner, Parabolica. Those were the two places I thought were the best, and I went for the first corner in the end.
i realise I will be a lone Lewis/ Mercedes supporter amongst a sea of red, bouncing about in my Union Jack bikini and my Lewis flag...but who cares. I think the Tifosi will be cool, passionate like me, if for a different driver/ team. It was the same at Hokenheim, the fans were great ( apart from one old sour puss who gave me a filthy look every Lewis came round.....and I screamed and did my air horn). Most were really nice and friendly. I think the Italians will excel in nice and friendly .
This is my travel plan. The ticket is just for race day. I will be driving over the Alps from France across the col de petite St. Bernard, into Italy on the Saturday morning early. Thought about staying in Milan but hotels aren't cheap and I was in Milan last year and have seen the big sights. So will probably be stopping Saturday in a little village by a lake ( largo di Viverone) about an hour from Milan. Saturday will walk around lake and swim in it. ( BAD THING, will miss quali) sat night will eat in little restaurant by lake. Sunday morning, up and out at six, drive to Milan central railway, park car in car park by train station and get train to Monza. ( special trains laid on) then about a mile walk to the grandstand. And that's it! I'm there ready to scream my head off for Lewis and watch him win!!!!
