Em, is it possible...likely...forgone that we will awake one morning to find that Manor Marussia is now Renault? As I peek through the keyhole, a dirty habit I have (#canthelpmyself), of today's Formula One, I see movement on the other side. The kind of bollocks scratching movement. The kind that causes one to pause and ask WTF does this mean. A highly regarded technical mind such as Bob Bell, has shunned the likes of Mercedes AMG, had his ball bounce once and then landed squarely in the yard of Manor...under the guise of "technical consultancy," mind you.
Renault have been uneasy for some time, missing the glory of running with the likes of works Mercedes, Ferrari and soon-to-arrive, Honda. Some can argue that swimming among big fish makes one big. Oh, and they do have some automobiles to sell. Race on Sunday, sell on Monday. Lets give them that.
Interesting times ahead if stories play out to be truths. And what a story that would be. Could be very reminiscent of the tale "From Struggling Jaguar to World Champion Red Bull." No doubt a long and arduous road but clearly, their minds being in the right place and long-term commitment in their front pocket, one could imaging Manor...er, Renault fighting with the likes of Williams and Toro Rosso for good points in a few short seasons. It's not beyond the realm of possibilities. I suspect Uncle Bernie not only would welcome such an eventuality, he may secretly be stoking the fires commercially to help see this thing through. After all, more manufacturers means more money flowing through the system. But if I can lean on the line from the Notorious B.I.G., "mo money, mo problems." As in, another possible descanting voice at the table when things become dicey. Oh yes, Renault on the grid as a works team has all sorts of ramifications. But Bernie's mindset is always get them in first and deal with them later.
Until the next few weeks and months play out, I can't help but hear the voice of one Kimster, "lets wait and see."
Such fun...
