Stupid question about 'Trump's wall' but I thought there was a wall between the US and Mexico already isn't there?? unless he wants some Berlin style wall with maximum security. It's a big border so the "wall" varies from place to place. There's nothing in a lot the places.

I had a underlying feeling that once in office he would calm down, and that a lot of what he spouted was just BS to enable himself to get elected. I seem to have misjudged that. Donald Trump: 'We Have, By Far, the Highest IQ of Any Cabinet Ever Assembled' WB: Is that a real quote? LRW: It's funny, people usually get upset when someone doesn't keep to their word once elected, looks like Trump is turning everything upsidedown. Is he trying to kill off the EPA now?

Well with asterisks all over the place. He sold the wall with the rally cry that he was going to build it and the Mexicans were going to pay for it. But now the tune is “I’m just telling you there will be a payment,” Trump said today in an interview with ABC News. “It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form.” Independent estimates have approximated that the wall would cost American taxpayers between $15 and $25 billion.
It's the way populist conservatives work, after the crowd's been hooked with the carnival act, they've lined up to buy the snake oil.

Perhaps the Canadian Government should start thinking of planning their wall too.

Mexico want a wall...........On their Southern border to keep out immigrants from Central America. If Trump was smart that's where the US should put it. Trade with Mexico is critical, if the drugs don't get to Mexico they don't get to the US and the border there is a lot smaller. You know why it's not going to happen? Because Trumps construction company subsidiaries wouldn't make the same amout of money building it down there.

Yes that would make sense. That first article I linked, the Guardian, talks about the companies standing to gain from the project. Cemex, on the Mexican side I think, have seen their shares rise by 23% and Vulcan materials on the US side a rise of 10%. Article said they'd likely use Mexican labour as it's cheaper. What a great opportunity for co-operation! Shame it's over something that separates. Crazy eh. Regarding payment for it, something you alluded to , trade, made me wonder if that's what Trump is planning? The Mexican guy on tele the other night was saying how crucial trade with the US is to Mexico. CouldTrump threaten something in that arena to get his wall money?

Major American construction company stocks shot up the moment Trump won the Presidency, there's a reason for that.

The US taxpayes are going to pay for it and the problem is that a Presiden profiting from his position is illigal and grounds for impeachment.
In the 70's Jimmy Carter owned a large peanut farm. In order to remove all conflicts of interest, he sold the peanut farm before taking office.
Trump never intended to be President, I think he came into this hoping to build a media agency based on the right wing populous and using the "Apprentice" series to anchor what would become the new crazier and more radical Fox News. Winning was an unfortunate accident for him.
He can now turn that into profiteering. Having Federal Agency money awarded to corporations you own or have investments in is a crime. But things like that no longer seem to matter.

So in other words the US citizens are paying for it twice, once with the taxes and then again with the 20% tariff... the US imports about 80% of their winter vegetables from Mexico.

From things he'd said the days before it was clear where his thinking was going.
Yes if you put it like that you'll pay twice. Once with the funds he moves from other projects( you'd have paid that anyway, just not had a say on where it's spent). Then by higher prices for Mexican imports.
Unless they come to some other arrangement, could be just posturing .
Our PM is over your neck of the woods . She's meeting him today, .........DON'T MENTION THE WALL! I MENTIONED IT ONCE BUT I THINK I GOT AWAY WITH IT. (Non Brits might not know that one. - John Clees, Fawlty Towers. Great comedy series)
