I wondered how people feel about this suggestion by Jeremy Corbyn......That women only train carriages be introduced to prevent harassment and sexual attacks on women.
I Personally think its a flawed idea for many reasons, and as a woman, it makes me angry. It arouses in me much the same emotions as the suggestion of a F1 women only race series...but the train thing is much worse. Here's some reasons why I think it's a really bad idea.
1. It sets back woman's equality that has been hard fought in this country , by many, many years. It's a dangerous and slippery slope.
2. It disempowers women. Suggests they can't cope in the real world.
3. It's insulting to the vast majority of men.
4. If there is an issue of women being attacked on trains, then that issue is what needs dealing with, those perpetrators need dealing with, not the women segregated and shut away. Bonkers way of looking at the problem.
5. What next? Should women be provided with escorts when walking past a building site just in case they get whistled at?
6. Why not ban trouble makers from trains? Or if that's too distasteful, too unfair on the poor trouble makers, then make moron and non moron carriages. Rather than women only carriages.
7. What about drunken women on trains late at night? I've seen some gross sights of drunken women. ( not me you understand ) Is it only men who misbehave?
Id better stop this rant. If these trains come into being I'll never go in one. In fact it will hugely encourage me to go in a mixed carriage and sexually harass the men in there.
