But Red Bull went for super softs... I'm surprised Merc didn't try it.

Interesting that no one went out on Soft or Super Soft in Q1. I think it's a Red Bull race to lose, hopefully there will be a real fight for the podium tomorrow, maybe only room for one Merc on it too from the looks of things. They did, Manor went for a soft run and both Button and Sainz went for super spits, they all came back out for a second run on ultra sorts.

Red Bull is just playing the opposite game. They have to do the opposite of whatever Merc does, this is a track that they'll have to overtake Merc in the pits with an undercut, on track action is going to be very limited I think.
The start is everything tomorrow.... Lewis is in deep doo doo.

My pole time guess was 1.42.521. Not bad I think.

That's pretty good WB. Mine was too low but within a second I think. I didn't watch it, just nanaged to follow it on crash net. What was up with Lewis?

Hamilton really struggling with whatever is up with his car, I would assume it's suspension related based on what Toto said.
Hamilton needs to get pass Riccardo at the start, Hamilton is on faster tyre and on the clean side of the grid.
If he can do that he should be able to challenge as his ultra softs from q2 are in better condition.
Riccardo needs to get in front of Rosberg if he wants to win.
Vetstappen needs to be careful in turn 1 because he on the dirty side of the grid which is a dangerous position to put Mr dive bomber!

He's just no got it this weekend. I think he'll be lucky to get the second step on the podium. One thing I don't want to see lost in all this. Mercedes understand how to put a car together. They got on top of what happened to them here last year... they are going to be a force to be reconed with as long as they remain in the sport with their current ferocious focus, right ferrari?

I didn't really care if Lewis was 1st or 2nd to be honest....he's not made much of it this season when he's on pole. But when he got dropped to 3rd I was like...man. What the hell, 2 mistake strewn hot laps.
Also, did you guys see his interview on Friday? When Ted asked him if the clutch thing is resolved, he just seemed nonchalant...saying yeah the problem WILL come back but he hopes it doesn't, it seems he's kinda pissed off that Merc seem to have just "accepted its part of the package". So what's even the point of pole position? All the efforts on Saturday can be thrown away within 5 seconds at the start simply through random mechanical fault.

Got to hand it to Nico, great lap so well done to him, as for lewis, he doesn't seem on it and he seems to admit that himself.
Should be a interesting race strategy wise, still feel its Nico's race to lose despite the Red Bulls starting on Supersofts.

I hope it's not a case of Nico scampering off into the distance. It's so rare we see both Mercs in a close fight. It's usually either one of them running for the hills, whilst the rest scrap for second.

According to several sites the thing that is not working / broken (probably the suspension trick) on Lewis's car still hasn't been fixed that's why Lewis is so off the pace.
I wonder if it can be changed under parc ferme under safety grounds

Good job Kvyat, you might have just saved your f1 career by holding back a Red Bull with some beautiful defending especially against the guy who took his seat.
I hope he manages to keep 6th place, he deserves a good result.

Wonder if Mercedes telling Lewis "switching to plan B" mean they're seeing something they don't like on Rosberg's car. It's been a battle of conservation on everyone's part today. Not the most exciting thing to watch indeed. The Kyviat/Verstappen battle has been the only bright spot.

Finally something to be amused about....Ferrari suckered again. They didn't even need to pit.....Lewis would've needed a Safety car lol

Well, the GP was a snoozer. I tried to spice it up a little with my pool picks. I played with fire and I got burned. The only "excitement" towards the end was really no excitement at all. Nico deserved that win, he drove the race he had to and started the performance on a solid Saturday lap. Just once I'd like to see a car problem niggle his weekend though, man Mercedes' issue have been one side this year. Amazing it's still as close as it it. Down the grid, the Red Bull's finest chance at a win this season came and went. Dani drove like a trooper but it wasn't going to happen in a computerized world. You knew it wasn't going to happen when Mercedes turned up the wick just enough to affect the Red Bull's model when they told Ricciardo that they'd catch Nico with about four laps to go. He had less than a half a lap of set up and no opportunity present. One more lap indeed. Really enjoyed Kyviat keeping Verstappen pinned... it was precious. One thing that made me laugh is Vettel being lauded by a last to fifth drive, he overtook 3.5 cars on track. The point five was Verstappen as he pitted right after having overtaken Vettel. So he gets drive of the day but last to podium from a driver not long ago was meh. Don't look behind the curtain! Anyways, back to our defending champion, this is turning into the season Mercedes promised us from the start, going all the way to end in Abu Dhabi.
