Been a bit distracted of late. But yep, another Pirelli blow out. With the immediate screeching from Pirelli ' It was debris, it was debris on the track'. Which they almost immediately deleted. And now we head to Silverstone, home of multiple Pirelli blow outs. 'Hmmmmmm, I heat Mercedes thinking, maybe we could do something with this, not gone down the 'blow out ' route yet. ( I jest, I jest........I think I jest )

coming to think of it, it was Lewis' tire that blew up when he was comfortably in the lead of the Silverstone GP back in 2013... Nico went on to win.

The FIA is now testing tire pressures before the wheels get mounted on the car. It seemingly has massively impacted Mercedes.

But they're still miles ahead. RC he was being sarcastic if anything it's effected Ferrari the most again...

Oh I see. Lol, is that why Ferrari have fallen behind Red Bull? Because they were cheating with tyre pressures?

Oh I see. Lol, is that why Ferrari have fallen behind Red Bull? Because they were cheating with tyre pressures? The predominant thought at the cuckooria lounge was that it was those rat bastard competition squelching Mercedes boys.

Goddamn those cheats! So why have Ferrari suddenly gone bad? That's not to do with the tyre pressure saga then? So what's that all about? Just lost the plot? Or just never really got on top of the rules? But it wouldn't be tyre pressures, it couldn't be

racechick, Ferrari have gone bad because they are trying very hard to return to the glory days of Ferrari.... you know, the period where people loved Ferrari for the looks but knew it was mechanically a pile of horse crap!

Apparently they'll be able to push lap after lap without much degradation, that's perfect for Hamilton, Raikkonen and Alonso, maybe even Massa

Redbull's contribution to the testing. One thing that's interesting and perhaps telling is that the requirement for these test stated the teams had to provide a 2015 spec car with the downforce of a 2017 spec car. Ferrari's yesterday and Red Bull's today. Both going different ways in how they gained that additional downforce for the testing mock up. Curious to see what Mercedes show up with in September.

Just a wee bit more mechanical grip I'd say.

Just a wee bit more mechanical grip I'd say. I know it will be more grip but the grip's also a function of pressure of the rubber against tarmac, if you double the size of the contact patch then you half the pressure per square inch so each square inch of the contact patch gives less grip with the wider tyres. It also depends on tarmac not being a completely smooth surface and the rubber deforming to the roughness of it which I think is the factor that gives the wider tyres the increased grip rather than just a larger contact patch so there may be different performance increases from track to track depending on the racing surface.

That's why it's being accompanied by a massive increase in downforce with the wider wing and canards around the tea tray.
