Ron's gone. Sold his shares and cut all ties with McLaren. I think it's a bit sad after how he built that company from nothing. There's plenty not to like about him, Spa wing comes immediately to mind. His stickler for detail. ( I knew an engineer who contract worked for McLaren and boy was he a stickler!) but maybe some of those traits in him I dislike are also what helped him succeed. I admired him not giving in to the vindictive, jealouse despot Mosley who went after him using his position to carry out a personal vendetta against him. I was incensed about the ridiculous fine imposed because Alfonso texted data. I remain convinced that Ron somehow had a hand in exposing Mosleys deviant sexual activities as payback. (remember my Silverstone Tshirt about that ) So mixed emotions for me regarding Ron Dennis. But sad to see him go...........unless his plan is to start another team ? There are rumours.

Same here, Ron Dennis is a household name in F1 and as big as Ross Brawn if not bigger. I wish he stayed in some form in F1 but after the shitstorm he's gone through the past few years maybe he'd want to close this chapter completely. Wish him all the best for his future endeavors.

I think a decision was made at McLaren that they could not reinvent themselves with Ron at the helm. Similar to Liberty Media ousting Bernie. Sometimes it's best to start fresh, new perspective, a focus unburdened with the ways of the past.

Demand : In 10 seconds, name as many drivers as you can to win consecutive World Championships ? Stoffel : Rosberg.
Stoffel thought for a minute that Keke and Nico was the same person.

Half of this belongs in the Renault team thread. It's always interesting to read what guys inside think about their drivers. It's also always interesting to see when they're digging deep to come up with something. Like a guy that claims all women are beautiful in their own ways.

True, I saw the name Eric B, I put it here without thinking. Like Perez for the Kimi's seat as soon as he will learn his retirement I agree with your words, for some they talk about them as if they were superheroes sometimes.

Who's the American guy that speaks for McLaren? Is he running the show ? And how do he a Eric Boullier fit together?
Anyway, I'm liking that American guy. He seems very fair when answering questions.

That would be Zak Brown, the executive director of Mclaren Tech Group and yeah its his show pretty much.

I'm not too impressed with the guy, he seems to me to have bitten of more than he could chew, interestingly, he also decided to hit out at Hamilton/Mercedes for some odd reason during the British GP, tweeting out about their team having two drivers at the event... That didn't work out so well for him I guess.

Keep in mind, this would have been shortly after Mercedes told him where to go when he asked about getting Merc engines back at McLaren

Because McLaren felt a bit odd asking Ferrari for use of their engines. 2021 can't get here soon enough for some teams.

So its official, Mclaren have Renault engines for 2018.
Mclaren Renault... just sounds really weird, going to take a while for me to get used to it.

The Ron Dennis era is officially over with that. Success of failure from this point on is Zack Brown.
Since 2012 McLaren had not made the right decision on... well anything. They're where they are by their own hand, perhaps this is the page finally turning.

Mclaren have always claimed they had a good chassis... well 2018 we will find out just how good it is when Mclaren will be compare to both Red Bull and Renault next year in the pecking order. I'm already looking forward to next year because of that and this year is far from being over yet.
No more hiding behind the Honda PU for Mclaren in 2018.

Mclaren have always claimed they had a good chassis... Not only them, Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari and everyone can see they have a great chassis. It's noticeable on pretty much every track.

Mclaren have always claimed they had a good chassis CLAIMED. And after those claims, other teams thought "ooo that McLaren is planted in corners, it's a GREAT chassis!" Then they all looked a little closer and realised that the McLaren ran higher downforce than anyone else. This is a large part of why they were able to hold speed through slow corners and why the chassis looks brilliant. Funny enough, it's also one of the reasons why the Honda engine looks so slow on straights!
