Track LayoutMontréalIn the 1960s the rivalry between French and English speaking Canada meant that the country's Grand Prix had two homes: Mosport Park one year and Mont-Tremblant the next. By 1970, however, Mont-Tremblant was deemed too dangerous and the race moved full time to Mosport Park.
In 1977 the French Canadians, motivated by the incredible success of Gilles Villeneuve, decided it was about time they built a race track. Building a new circuit simply wasn't feasible, however, as time and money were against them.
Their solution was simple and effective. Taking the Ile Notre-Dame, they connected all the island's roads and made a circuit. The island had been the home of the 1967 World Fair (Expo'67) and was full of futuristic looking buildings. It was, everyone agreed, a perfect venue for a Grand Prix.
After $2m was spent on upgrading the circuit to Formula One standards, the first race was held there in October 1978. Gilles Villeneuve, in his first season with Ferrari, was yet to win a Formula One race, but at his home Grand Prix he took a memorable debut victory. Following his tragic death in 1982, the track was renamed in his honour.
His son, Jacques, never won at the track but some of the great drivers of the sport have taken the spoils here. Michael Schumacher holds the record of having won seven times in Canada. It is also the scene of Jean Alesi's single Grand Prix victory in 1995, driving the number 27 Ferrari, the same car number which carried Gilles Villeneuve into the hearts of the Canadian Formula One fans.Interesting little tidbit of information to get the conversation flowing for Montreal.

Very ominous indeed for the rest as i dont think Merc will be too bothered from now about how badly they spank the others

The only concern I have are their brakes. That seems to be the one weak spot on the car. It was a bother last year and I thought they would have buttoned that up for the new '15 car but we've had two races so far this season where they were having real problems. Canada is not the circuit to bring brake problems so I do hope they have something sorted for it.

20~22 C by racetime, don't think that will be an issue with the brakes. So far that's been in unusually hot environments.

The Bahrain night race wasn't incredibly hot...pretty normal night temps there and the Mercs had issues. I find it doesn't take much for them and that's the problem. I also find it interesting that no other team has had real consistent brake issues so there is room for improvement at Mercedes AMG.

They're running their MGU-K at the limit, more than the rest it seems like. I'm pretty sure they'd be fine this time around, the nightmare of last season's race is not that far away. Away from the track these guys do their preparations well, they kept harping on reliability during the winter testing and made a massive step forward. They need a car at least half a second faster than the opposition during the race and no surprises at the end, so the strategists need not think on their feet in order to secure a 1-2.

The question for me this GP is how much Ferrari and Honda bring with their PU upgrade. Honda had been on a slow but steady upwards trajectory but let's face it, from where they were, up was the only way to go. Ferrari on the other hand came in with new found engine horsepower that has seemingly vaporized after they cracked down on the fuel flow. Canada is an accelerator's dream jam on the brakes then floor the gas and repeat.
A weak ice will be exposed, and a strong MGU package will be required.

Just worked out. Tomorrow when the GP is on, I shall be in a tin can with wings, flying at 35,000ft, half way to Poland.

I'm similar. Left Cambodia yesterday eve and flew through the night back to China. It's now 9.30 pm and Im dropping, not slept for 40 hrs. No way I'll make Quali if I've any chance of staying awake for the race. ( it's on here about 2.30 pm ). Will have to watch a repeat. So what were Merc doing sending Lewis out on the wrong tyres in practise? Just after they've had meetings to stop making silly pig wall decisions? ? And DID that tractor machine hit the back of Lewis' car cos looked like it did. Going to bed .

I am going to say it, the 4 PU a season limit is a joke. This should be extended or eradicated. I love cars PUSHING their engine rather than carrying them like a rare vase through New York.

Nico has discovered the only excuse reserved for Lewis teammates - he had no grip
mind you he is at least big enough to admit its just an excuse

Nico my not even get the Pole trophy this year. Interestingly enough at least three poles this year that I know for sure, maybe more have come on Lewis' banker lap.

Big big race for Seb. We will find out if last year Seb is the real Seb or if this years number 1 contract comfortable Seb can drive from the back and beat his teammate like Lewis does :missingpopcornsmilie:
