It's going to be fun. The race at the front and the race at the back between Vettel and Massa..I bet one of them will make contact with a car on the first few laps.

Assuming they manage to fix the the cars for them to be back at full power

I heard the Mercs were having problems with 'knocking' at the top end of power, but have been able to rectify it without using tokens under one of the conditions allowed. Would that rectifying have happened between practises and quali? Because the Ferrari's had a much better race pace in the practices and I think rosberg would have been vulnerable certainly to Vettel, maybe to Kimi depending which Kimi turns up. but if Merc have sorfted the engine then maybe it wont be so close.

Heres an outlandish theory to try on before the action starts;
The FIA enforcement of the fuel flow regs has a devastating effect on the cars power output, especially highlighted by Ile notre dame circuit. As Seb is their #1 driver the team have conformed his car (or brought a new spec engine) to avoid a possible multi race ban for cheating - resulting in the loss of at least 100bhp then blamed on a failing Ers.
However they have decided to gamble on their number 2 driver by not conforming his car(or keeping him on the older spec engine). A bit like when RBR sent Ricc out with an illegal car at the start of 2014
Or it could be that they have screwed the new spec engine up even worse than just making it fuel flow compliant
Who knows, but its gonna be fun seeing what Seb can do compared to Kimi. It will also be fun seeing if Button could possibly overtake Stevens as well as Mehri

But both cars were fast in practise, so they must have been the same then. Unless there's something they can switch on and off regarding the fuel flow thing. I've put Vettel down for 8th in the race.....I was assuming he would gave the pace back that he had in practise.
Regarding Button, he's already made his excuses, something along the lines of .....'it will be impossible to do anything but come last'. Lol setting the expectations! I still get insensed when I hear that Canadian GP trotted out as one of the best ever races....the one where Button took out Lewis and Alonso without penalty.

Looking forward for Vettel to slice through the field from the back of the grid, 4 time WDC in the fastest top speed car on a straight circuit. Should be fireworks back there with Massa trying to do the same as well.
Merc or I should say Hamilton have a way with the prime tire though. Not sure what/why but consistently throughout the year they've been it's been a very fast pairing. Nearly as fast as other teams on the option.

Not sure what/why but consistently throughout the year they've been it's been a very fast pairing. Nearly as fast as other teams on the option. I think it's because Merc are still very hard on tyres compared to other teams so they can get the temperature into them and then relax a bit which keeps the tire at temp but not over or under where as on the softer compounds for each race weekend they get them too hot. Vettel and Massa at the back is interesting they're two very fast cars down the straights so it's going to be interesting to see who can overtake who down them. The new Merc engine for Lotus and Mercedes is impressive, the reliability change has increased their top speed. Ferrai were actually slower in q3 than Williams, Mercedes and Lotus down the straights. Lotus was fastest by 2kmph, followed by Mercedes, followed by Williams who were 1kmph slower than Mercedes, followed by Ferrari who were 2kmph behind Williams.

I don't know why the commentators were not picking it up but Lewis was always fastest in S3 (Rosberg faster in S1 and S2) because of a lower downforce setting. His top speed was clocked around 5-6km/h faster than Rosbergs.
If it rains at any stage, he's going to have a challenge.

I don't know where they get these readings from because the FIA official timings say completely different to SKY and BBC (they have conflicting times too) Rosberg had the fastest S3 straight line speed but Hamilton had the average being faster...

Parc ferme starts before quali so they could have done it then. Its pretty outlandish, but for Seb only to lose performance on a power circuit weekend they brought a new engine, with their history of quantity over quality when it comes to upgrades. What fun!

Just watching the pre race shows....there was a quick quiz thing with Suzie Wolff. She's such a sweetheart.

Here's a fun fact... Maldonado has finished in the points 8 times in his entire F1 career.

Parc ferme starts before quali so they could have done it then. Its pretty outlandish, but for Seb only to lose performance on a power circuit weekend they brought a new engine, with their history of quantity over quality when it comes to upgrades. What fun! The reason Mercedes were closer to Ferrari in the race than in qualli previously was because the engine was having problems with engine knocking/pinging/pinking where it was basically having abnormal combustion going on which meant they couldn't push the engine too much and would be running it on a lower setting than they were during the race to keep temperatures, fuel usage and the condition of the engine in a better condition. They have now fixed in their new engine under reliability changes which should improve their speed quite a lot, if we look at the gap between Hamilton and Raikkonen and the improvement that Lotus have made the difference is remarkably noticeable. Sure Ferrari have brought a 30hp~ improvement but that might be nulled by the fact that Mercedes can run their engine at a higher setting during the race and don't have to be so cautious with engine temperatures. The teams were re-warned at the Spanish Grand Prix that they have the right to check all and any engine after the race, they didn't as it was a warning to tell teams to stop abusing and last race at Monaco they inspected every Engine and they all passed. Look at how much faster Lewis was than Vettel in clear air and look how Rosberg ran away from Vettel... I am pretty sure Ferrari were the ones abusing it as they dropped back relative to previous performances and then again at Monaco Ferrari dropped back even more including in qualifying. Look at Canadian qualifying where they were supposed to gain on Mercedes with their new power unit and the fact its a straight line speed track and they were at the same distance back as they were at Monaco so they HAVEN'T improved. I wouldn't be all too surprised to see Mercedes fly away from Raikkonen during the race, if they don't then Ferrari's improvement has worked for the race pace, but they must have just had a bad qualli. Just watching the pre race shows....there was a quick quiz thing with Suzie Wolff. She's such a sweetheart. And she's eyecandy!

Good race so far, everyone is pushing all up and down the grid. Loved watching Vettel ruin. Set of super softs trying to overtake Alonso. Such fun!
