Checkout this 2010 pole lap with the car that everyone* thinks has the highest downforce of any car in f1 history. Personally I think it looks pathetic at how planted, scalextric style the car is. I much rather seeing them have to fight the rear more. Thanks for sharing that actually. It's a very telling clip and very telling commentary to go back to now that we "know" what had been going on. Two comments in particular. "The Red Bull boys really have the one lap thing worked out" and Even when he lost it is was as if he didn't even lift. Well, it was shown that Red Bull had the ability to adjust the ride height of the car while in parc ferme, and of course the blown diffuser works on the principal of not lifting. That engine was on 100% throttle for 85% of that lap, an awesome clip to watch still.

With respect to Vettel it took some bollocks and will power to not even lift slightly which is intuitive in that situation.

Top five qualifying times for that race... Alonso had a spectacular bid just to try and hold the tiger by the tail. Interestignly enough it was won by Button.
Sebastian Vettel RBR-Renault 1:23.919 Mark Webber RBR-Renault 1:24.035 Fernando Alonso Ferrari 1:24.111 Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes 1:24.675 Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:24.837

Is it me or is this whole van der Garde court "victory" simply futile? Frankly, none of the mechanics, engineers and other team personnel want him there and will support him after this messy business. His car will break a lot, he will have pitstop cockups and there will generally be mayhem aplenty. For all this, he will start trashing the car, either in barriers or other cars. Either way, he shouldn't be in the car. Nobody wins and only bad things can happen. The court should have ruled in his favor but provide some other solution than force Sauber to put him in the car. Messy business, this!

A la Maldonado with Williams in 2013? That was painful to watch.

You know with all the crap that's been going on, I've missed this altogether. I guess he's sued to be in the car and won?

Yes. But it's being appealed - court of appeal will hear the case tomorrow.

Messy business, this! I've only seen whats on the BBC, but surely Sauber will just pay him off ? I don't think the court can force Sauber to let him drive, only that a contract has been broken

Can they afford to pay him off? Probably not.
Can they afford to not pay him off and let him drive (most definitely not)

Wow, this is something rare stateside. They're televising FP1, FP1 and FP3! They only have previously done that for the Austin GP weekend.

The cost alone to get rid of him is part of Sauber's problem. They have no money. Not only did the courts side with him but they stipulated that he has to be one of the elected drivers for the entire season. Talk about being caught between a rock and a fuhked up place!
Not much fun.
