Because they're horrible. They have too many legs, they move too fast, and sometimes, horror of horrors, they get on me. now if they're scared of me, why do a stupid thing like get on me? Or run near me?

I might feel differently if they were more dangerous here but they're amazing creatures.
Not horrible:

Okay, those spiders could dance, that moves them way up my estimation! And they're pretty! The ones in my house don't dance and aren't pretty. They're grossly ugly, hairy and they run at me. Horrible, hate them. It's an irrational hate, I know that. I know they won't hurt me, but if they get on me I go mental. I know this one will come out again tonight. I've seen him twice now.

Come to Australia... our spiders are friendly right up until the point you die :/

I really couldn't live in Australia for that very reason. Not the dying bit, I guess that's quite unlikely; but the massive hunter spiders that get on you. Couldn't do it.

As a kid living in Cuba I remember flying cockroaches.

We have flying roaches right here in this house I stay at! And I'm afraid to hire pest control or spray excessively since I have a cat living with me too. Whenever I spot one, I kill it. But I really don't like this sort of lifestyle....never had roaches wherever I stayed at. This unit has them hiding out somewhere I don't know where as yet.
I don't mind spiders...or geckos. They're quite cool. But roaches. They look bad, they smell worse. Ugh

I love gecko's I can have those on my hand. Not keen on roaches, not at all. But spiders still the worst.

We have 520 species of spiders here in Australia, only 503 are venomous They go well with the poisonous fish, cone snails, snakes, sharks, crocs, jellyfish, centipedes, and other assorted nasties waiting to get you. Oh and don't forget, some of our spiders happily survive underwater for several days. Basically, if it's alive and a native species in Australia, it's trying to hurt you. Even the birds are in on it! It's why Australians are good at swimming fast, driving fast, and hitting things with a wooden bat... it's not sport here, it's survival.

How ironic though the way Steve Irwin passed on, wading into the most dangerous parts of the most venomous part of the world....and the thing that killed him didn't even mean to do it and didn't even know he was there! I loved Irwin, a true advocate for the animal kingdom.

I think Australia is not for me. My brother lives there now and he spends a lot of time outside but he's said he's still only seen a few spiders and snakes that can kill.

I think Australia is not for me. My mum stayed in Sydney for 2 years and her worst experience was seeing a big tall dude jump into the yard behind her rented house (she thought he was gonna break in).....and cross over and jump over again to the next house. She said he reminded her of a kangaroo.

It's not the things you see that you have to worry about! My first weekend here I was swimming in a pool and the guy who maintained it warned me about the funnel web sitting at the bottom of the pool. Apparently they can "breath" under there for a week. Had a redback spider pop up and say hi at work... damn thing was the size of a 50p coin. And we wont talk about the eastern brown that was asleep on the parcel shelf of my car. And I lived in the MIDDLE OF SYDNEY... But unless Lewis comes out here for an extended break over Chistmas, it won't help Nico (getting the thread back to the topic..)

Nice return to topic dogued. Apparantly Nico is still peeved that Lewis sought clarification over the yellow flag infringement. He bought it up with the press press today.

Yeah seriously, talk about off topic, dogued a part of me says you're exagerating but it's the kind of part that would chuckle when being afraid so... scratch my trip to Australia off the bucket list.

I'd considered going to work in Australia but one of the things that put me off was spiders and snakes, someone from Australia said not to worry, as long asyou ddon't go poking around holes in walls and stuff you'll be ok..... wtf do you think stonemasons do?
