Nice side by side here of last year's pole and today's fastest lap by Hamilton. Keep an eye on the steering input and overall stability. From a lap time standpoint they're both almost identical but considering that this was a testing lap in the process of a multiple lap stint and the pole lap from 2016, you can tell how much more we're going to get from these 2017 cars.

It really does look like a Sunday drive in the 2017 video. Very smooth and controlled. Like he isn't even trying.

Makes you feel like you could jump in there and give him a run for his (easy) money.

So the final day of the first test... and they dump 500,000L of water on track over 2 periods. Not that I think it helped, the track dried very quickly. What have we learned from Week 1? - A lot more millage done this year.
- Honda, despite that oil pan issue, seem to have changed engine design without anywhere near the problems they had last year.
- Stroll appears to be struggling with the step up, hopefully he can get to grips with that before Melbourne
- Ferrari have improved handling greatly. Times don't mean much, but the way the car runs looks so much better
- Mercedes might not have as big an advantage, but it's still there. These guys are toying with us this week, and let's not forget they have an upgraded engine ready for Melbourne!
- Renault has upped it's game massively. Is Palmer going to be the "English Darling" now Button is gone?
- Hamilton still gets the bad luck, so maybe it wasn't all Nico's fault!
- The cars are FAST!

I think Lewis is quite happy he didn't have to run on the final day. he already jokingly said after day 3 he might fake a injury and let Valtteri do all the day 4 wet running.

And I don't completely buy 'electrical' issues either. Really...the only wet day, and Merc do no running. I recall last year they sat out the first couple of wet days as well, citing issues.

A few snippets from the testing. Merc still seems to be the team to beat and........ Lewis Hamilton seems to be getting on famously with new team mate Bottas, saying: “We already have a better working relationship than I ever had with any team mate I had before.” ( I think that's great news after the backstabbing shisters he's worked with previously. I know. Early days ) Ferrari- the team seem happy. But they tested well last year then did crap. Red Bull- “If you start on a highly complicated level it is so easy to get lost,” said technical chief Adrian Newey of the RB13’s design, confirming suggestions that the car is definitely still in its infancy in terms of development potential. Max thinks they will be down on power to the Merc initially but will catch up. www.formula1.com/en/latest/features/2017/3/lessons-learned---what-2017s-first-test-taught-us.html

I love what Lewis said, and so quickly while Britney is still sauntering in and out of the garage like he's still part of the team. I hope he says it a couple more times, and at Melbourne as well. Shove Britney out the door, quickly and completely.

Yes, me too. It sounds like it's an actual working relationship with all that entails, rather than playing systems and doing everything possible to benefit ME, ME, ME. Trying to make self look good at EXPENSE of Lewis and team, instead of working with him for mutual and team benefit. Alonso, Button and Rosberg all did that to some extent, one more blatantly, one more subtly and one downright sneakily.
It's early days, but I really hope he's got a nice team mate this year.

I'm pretty sure Hamilton and Rosberg both gushed at the start of their Mercedes period together about how they would work together so well as they had been life long friends.
Let's give it a season before we all cream ourselves.

Let's give it a season before we all cream ourselves. You're goddamn right. It did start out very rosy in 2013, no one's saying Lewis will definitely work well with Bottas. I'm saying Lewis did a nice backhanded slap mentioning that line so quickly, his old teammate is barely out the door and he's already saying Bottas is better to work with.

Don't think it didn't go unoticed. The funny part in all this is how Rosberg couldn't have quit fast enough to get away from the sport to be with his family and he spent more time at the first winter testing than some drivers.

That's very true. Be interesting to see how many weekends he appears this season.

Honda seems to be going thought an engine a day during the testing. They completely redesigned the engine so this is to be expected but it's going to be another 2015 for McLaren. You have to find reliability before you can push.

Are the engines breaking? Could they be trying different components/settings then taking them away to study wear and stresses after each day? Although I'd imagine a lot of that could be done on the dyno.

What the dyno can't do is simulate the multi directional G loads and how they'll affect the fluid/lubricant flows. They are really struggling. I hope they can get it figured out... they have less than three weeks now.
